Put the Red Devils on today. They look better in person.
I was playing it through my B-18, and thank god for the Varitone on that bass, cause it didn't sound great when it was more trebly, but with the higher resistance setting (less trebly) it sounded magical! Never thought anyone would say that about an 80's pointy bass did you? :roflmao:

I have Red Devils on my red JC. It does look good, but the reds don't match. I may try different strings or my continue with the same when it is time for a change. Red Devils look cool - it is like there are silks the whole length of the string.

I have been auditioning heads to go with the new cabinet. There is an optimization that needs to be made between availability, price, and tone. As the Rotten Kid will attest, a non-linear (possibly integer) complex interdependent optimization amoung three variables is difficult at the best of times. So I have been spending some time auditioning heads.

All things considered, I like the tone of the Ampeg PF-50T as I have heard on Yoot-Oob clips. And so, in the end, everything gets compared to that. But my local L&M does not have one in stock right now...

So a few thoughts on what I have tried to date...
Rumble 200 - clean sound is good, but the drive tone, is too trebly.
YBA200 - great sound. Can do clean to dirty. But will I ever need 200 watts?
Traynor small block 200 - it is clean. really clean. No dirt.
Ampeg PF-20T - it doesn't; do dirt. at all. Not what I expected.
Vox MV-50 Rock - too much drive. Difficult to get a clean sound.
Vox MV-50 AC - great sound. can do a bit of dirt to a lot of dirt. But no clean tone.

I wanted to try the Marshall Origin 50, but it will only go to 8 ohms, and I need 4.

So, my current thought is MV-50 AC with a longer term plan for a PF-50.

But, it has been suggested that I try a markbass and the MV-50 clean.

Anyone got other suggestions for me?
Parameters are:
I really don't need more than 50 or so watts (more is OK as long as I don't need full volume to get the tone).
I like a bit of dirt.
4 ohms.
If I'm spending US$900, I might as well just get the PF-50T.

Anyone else looking at guitar heads to pair with their bass cab?

I have tried a few Jacksons. I didn't like the feel of the Kellybird. But the others (neck thru) feel great. I guess the only 7ender products I like?

I've never played a Kellybird, the looks don't thrill me, OTOH I'd love to see and play some pointy headstock '80s basses, you just don't see them much - where'd they all go?

Definitely would go for the Mustang... and I’m not a Ford person.
Ta. Only idle pondering for me.
I’m just disappointed at the poor attempt at competing. They can’t expect to sell more than a handful, even though it looks very nice in the photos. Shame as Holden owned that segment when the recent Monaro was alive.

The Mustang is the Ford I would consider. Maybe the Ranger, though I do like the Colorado.
