Thunderbird Club

I find this curious, as in.. does this really reflect the market for vintage basses now? This asking price for a '64 IV with a broken/repaired neck and in pretty trashed condition?

GIBSON THUNDERBIRD lV BASS - 1964 - SUNBURST - ULTRA RARE VINTAGE GIBSON BASS

And if you thought that was steep - how about a '67 for about the same asking price?

Gibson Thunderbird IV Non-Reverse Bass 1967 "Sunburst"

As a vintage T-bird II owner I've seen the asking price for these basses fluctuate greatly over many years - but these are very high asking prices. Feels like someone is attempting to unload before the vintage market takes another dive. (for maybe the last time)
There are always bottom feeder types around, and with the recent disruptive (or whatever) events at Gibson, maybe it's just a shot into the fray...

The second one has no headstock break (spoke to the schmoe) but it's also in Europe where these go for more.

Except for no pup or bridge cover, the NR's the same as mine. Can't be authentic, though-the pickguard isn't cracked around the top front screw.:smug:

It is of note that the '64 is in England and the '67 is in Spain. Apparently it's time for international owners of vintage T-birds to attempt to cash out.

How yall been?
Well, busy and a little harried over here, but the Bird Clan is generally in good order I think.
We've had a couple come and go, seen some new birders join our fray, and some are discovering the wonders of some thing or other I guess.
Sudden ruts leading off from the rails into various god-forsaken wildernesses are frequent sightings/experiences, some of us lead extended forays into the intrigue of petrol-fired, wheel-bound vehicular devices, and no one has seen hide nor hair of that notorious Marco- that apparently ill-fated mobster hit-man who sidelined in an 80s pop cover band on the (*gasp*) Fender Precision Bass...
Other than that, nothing, I guess.

Problem (for us) is they're asking European prices. I suspect it will sell for around those prices in Europe. Besides, who wants to mess with that rosewood issue on a big buck vintage bass, where customs could arbitrarily keep or destroy it.

We can thank Gibson for this.

I see a lot of basses from Japan on eBay that catch my attention but I've never been tempted to buy one with extra-costs likely.

I just bought a 2006 Gibson T'Bird. Is it poly or nitro?

BY the way, this thing feels great and the sound is THUNDEROUS! I had an Epiphone T'Bird that I loved, but this thing does everything it did, a little better. It takes it up a notch. I also like that its better balanced than the Epiphone, with almost no neck dive.

I'll post a pic later.

One thing I don't like is the three point Gibson bridge. I find it really hard to adjust the action. I have a hipshot bridge I used on the Epiphone and it worked great. It fits the holes on my Gibson, but its not high enough.

most likely poly - and quite frankly, the whole nitro thing is a marketing tool and has no baring on quality. (or magic)

I'm thinking it's Nitro, I've never heard that they switched to poly. However, I don't have any evidence to back it up, although it would certainly have been a big point of discussion on LBO if they had.

Not yet but Oktober comes soon!

My cousin from port Angeles came out this summer for my folks 50th. I asked her if she had heard of the Nasty Habits and she gave me a dumbfounded look. She said you guys put on a great live show!

Awesome! Pt Angeles is home to us! That made my day!
