Thunderbird Club

Here's a long lost nugget from from the band's past, I hadn't seen this vid for about 4 years as Prince's evil minions had actually blocked it from view on Youtube. Somehow now you can see it again, it's shot over two nights and was spliced together by my bandmate Ginger. Our now retired guitarist Rachael is playing here - Our Newbie replacement is coming along very nicely, but that's for another post....

Meantime....

I'm with you guys on the color match in that it really doesn't bother me too much, especially considering the price, but I realize that's the sort of thing that drives some people up a wall, so I figured I'd better mention it. Turns out it's probably a good thing I did.
My other Pelham Blue is the one with a dig in the back of the neck, and I think this neck matches it pretty well, so I might see if I can swap necks and get that one set up properly, then maybe fit either the Tele style neck or a reversed G&L neck on the odd color body.

I don't notice the color difference much either and it wouldn't bother me to own that bass at all.
I would play the #$@!! Out of it and be happy. Korean 'Birds are way, way better than you could possibly hope for at their price range. Plus that one is a good looking color. You can't see the color mismatch when you're playing.

Yup, I'm that guy. The color mismatch would seriously bother me. When I bought my pickup truck and cap new in 2012, the dealer swore the cap would match. It didn't and I made them reshoot the cap to get it right. The dealer was trying to tell me it was close enough but when I had it checked it wasn't even close, like 6 shades off. When they were done getting it right it was within a quarter shade of being exact. I paid for it to match and dammit, it's gotta match!

Thanks for the responses everyone!
Pickguard and truss rod cover were both a 2 layer coverage with Krylon MAXX Hammered textured spray(2 layered so it shimmers at different angles in lighting), Truss cover is actally a piece of a flame abs car flame emblem sprayed as well with a 3rd layer to seal it.

The other pieces of the same emblem were layered with a another car side exhaust abs emblem, another layered Krylon Maxx hit - plus a classic V8 hotrod emblem left chrome to stand out from the black. The Pickguard also used another exhaust emblem left chrome to stand out. The 2 Mad Max metal emblems were just bought off Ebay.

While I don't really tend to use a thumbrest - I used a ABS car door bumper protecter(The natural "lip" in the body made it easy to mount). If you look close at some pics you'll notice static cling vinyl stickers layering underneath (Just bought a big clear page of it and exacto knifed the outlines I need, and stuck the 3m backing tape to it)- This was done so none of the mods damaged the finish while I continue to evaluate their locations.

And thanks to a fellow Talkbasser I bought it from - This is an Epi Classic setneck with the Gibson pickups(Gonna chrome them later), also Hipshot bridge, Hipshot ultralite tuners with clovers, a Detuner, and Loxx straplocks.

I bought all the car ABS parts from clearance from Walmart. So any extra weight was negligible. This Phase One of "The Fury Road" based off of my love of Mad Max - Single connected Chrome flame fret inlays on the way, as well as another abs car emblem bullet belt to paint and attach. About 30 bucks of parts and paint, 2 weeks of planning, and an afternoon of work. Will for sure post pics of Phase Two. And of course Phase Three...Learn to play without the benefit of Rocksmith 2014 :) This is my first such project - so Thanks Again for the responses!

Welcome to the Best club on TalkBass! :)

Very detailed and interesting mods - Thanks for sharing... :)

Did Epiphone offer the Pro in trans black once?

Indeed they did...

The active Pro-IV and Pro-V were originally both available in Trans Black - Very cool color which unfortunately isn't available anymore...

Off topic question: i have found a Gibson IV Bass that looks super clean and I am considering purchasing. They seem rather elusive so info has been rather difficult to obtain. I would like to know what all of your thoughts are in what seems to be a killer deal.

If you don't buy it, at least send me the details - I'm kind of interested in one if the $$$ are right.
