There may be some acceptions.

EDIT: PillO just cleared it up. :smug:

Tuesday was new case day, yesterday was new string day. Put the EB Cobalt flats on last night-too late to play at volume. Let 'em stretch over night and played this A.M. Amazing! Just enuff 'klank'(for me),better sustain, richer lows and feel great. Other than that, not impressed.....RIIIIGHT!:bassist::hyper:

My own string journey continues...

Fortunately, the great flats experiment is done. I discovered that flats do wear out and that I don't like the sound and that cobalts are tough on my fingers.

I have also discovered that loving a string on one bass doesn't mean that I will like it on all basses. And that I can like more than one string on a bass. I have also learned that I really like NYXLs on many of my basses, including Thunderbirds. But I also like Black Beauties on Thunderbirds. The Midtown sounds best with Fat Beams. I really like Fat Beams, but only on that bass.

Now that I think about it, I think NYXLs may be my go to string. I haven't found any bass on which I don't like them.

And, to my ear, NYXLs are better and longer lasting than the regular XLs.

YMMV.

All this to say. Fine if you like flats, but I am finished with them and hated the cobalts.

Ha!!!, still on the string quest myself. Rounds just don’t fit the bill for me. So off I go to pick up another set of (cough) flats. The Conalts work really well in both Birds. But I’m still working on finding the right strings for the 7ender.

Interesting. As you say, YMMV. I played rounds(don't remember what brand)when I was playing 6 nights/week up to '83 but after that, playing Way less often, I found rounds to be too rough on my 'delicate'(LOL)fingers, so I switched to flats. Been happy(a relative term)with them ever since. I now have EB Cobalt Flats on both 'Birds, Chromes on the Ibanez semi-hollow and 5quier VM Jag SS and 1/2 rounds on the Les Paul 5er.:)

Big fan of both NYXL's and XLBT's

We are a tolerant bunch here. Except for 7enders... @JJR58 - As Shakespere would say "Aroint thee witch!"
