I thought he looped his cord through it, like most players do around the strap-peg/strap, so when I saw the pic of him playing with that not happening... (and no pinky there) I had to ask. I figured it wasn't a napkin holder...

I used to think it was strange...…..Then I saw pics of me playing and very often my pinkie (yes, I said pinkie) is extended (Ahenmmm….) across the bridge cover or the bare bridge......I'm bad. :woot:

Looking more at the Legend, Skull, forte & NS 2x. If the rex only differs in the cutaway & the rest is the same as the four others, than by all means please measure it :)

Yes generic spector bird, that's my bad. There's rarely a spector bass in my part of Canada that i've found, so birds are hard to spot. I guess i was speaking more of Nikki Sixx's spector birds, rather than the birds of today. Although the NS2X is the closest one to his (i'm sure the legend & forte are similar if not identical in measurements)

The Hamer is different size and slightly different shape, like the Spector. Similar but the lines don't "flow" the same. On the Gibson the bout where the guard attaches is about a 1/2" away from the neck than on the Hamer or Spector (Gibson goes out 6" and H & S are 5 1/2"). On both copies the bout does not go as wide and goes up at a steeper angle. The "shoulder" on the bass side of the neck is about 1/4" taller than the Gibson and does not flow as smoothly. Both the Hamer and Gibson are about 9" wide across the center between the pickups. Spector is gone so can't tell you for sure on the sizes. The Hamer and Spector are much thicker than Gibson/Epi Birds are as well and weigh a bit more.

I use my pinky (ever wondered where that term started? - maybe.., sounds like "dinky"/smallest finger) as a 'stilt' to ground my right hand over the strings, compared to a 'hook' or in Fender terms, a 'tug'. ("tug-bar") Some players use their thumb on the pu's or as with 70's Fenders and Guilds - on the 'thumb rest'. So as an overview - unless you exclusively use your thumb to 'plunk' the strings (ala James Jamerson -which was known as the 'hook') then the thumb and pinky are most usually right hand digits not use to pluck the strings and so useful as rests, hooks, tugs, or stilts. :)

I finally found my missing link on our local Craig’s List this weekend.The almost impossible to find 2013 Gold Top Les Paul..It’s a killer.For some reason Gibson nailed it with these LP’s
I’ve been on the hunt for a while for this one..I’m lucky to now own all three colors..just a little Thunderbird diversion for a Sunday..Cheers.
