That seems strange to me. Is it an "image" thing? Does the T-Bird "sound" not work for some odd reason? Is there a specific bass they suggest you bring? Not trying to be pedantic but without further clarification from thier end, it seems really weird.
I get so ticked off sometimes. I try to play one of my Birds at gigs with this band and they say "put that toy away and play a real bass"!! Aaaarrgghhh!!!
But it's perfectly ok for one of the guitarists to play a 68 ES335?

I would be surprised if they knew why they comment like this. I think it's simpler than we think. They are probably used to FSOs and that's it. Short sighted and ignorant...

Those are made by Schecter, I believe. Not a bad axe, and you could have some good fun at someone's expense!
I don't get why they would have a problem with a Tbird - especially a 60s one.

There is obviously a prejudice(in the literal meaning of 'pre-judged')against Thunderbirds, which I have chosen to totally ignore. It goes on any gig to which I feel like taking it. I have played it in a lounge group doing everything from "Girl From Ipanema" to "Johnny Be Goode", etc.; in a 'Big Band' doing all the Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Les Brown, etc. dance tunes; in a 60 piece concert band(clarinets, flutes, trombones, trumpets, french horns, et al). And, of course, various rock bands of varying ilks. If anyone didn't like it, they never said so to me-they woulda gotten my standard response:"Oh.... OK, ---- off."
Perhaps they should be edumucated.

It does seem strange to me. But i think it's the typical stereotype when it comes to TBirds.
People are locked into what they're used to hearing, so they're not going to hear it at all if it's something out of their wheelhouse. I personally don't care what bass a player plays, but don't knock something that can do a lot.
I also am of the opinion that there are those in the that, it doesn't "look right" camp.

Oh, no doubt. I'd bet the blindfold test would be in order. Take a single pup Bird and a Precision. Better yet, Dukes Cataldo. I'd place a wager that most would think that Cataldo was a...............
Someone with a lot more ability than I have could make a killer outta that!
