Thunderbird Club

I hear you - as a 13 yr old I was completely clueless about such details. It was a "guitar", it had 4 strings and it was electric - I was now part of what was going on! ... tone?, intonation?, scale length?, technique? Can I play "I'm Your Captain" all the way through? :D
At 13, I was only beginning to figure out that I was not going to play middle linebacker for the Bears. I could play piano, more or less. Anything with strings that were not inside a box was a mystery for several more years. Guitars got girls' attention. Therefore guitars got my attention, slowly. I am a slow learner sometimes.

Any suggestions on how I can lower the action on my 67? Bridge(original, I don't wanna change it) is as far down as it'll go and I'm hesitant about fooling with truss rod adjustment since the headstock repair. Neck appears straight to my[not always reliable]eyes. Just curious if there's sumpin' else I haven't considered.:cautious:

I am a little bleary this morning. My wife and I saw our son play trumpet, percussion, and some keys in two bands back to back last night. He has an iron face to be able to play trumpet in funk bands that long. Teragram Ballroom is a pretty nice venue. The kid invited us back stage after the show was done, and we were groupies/ hangers on for a bit. I am used to coiling cords and moving equipment after a show, so it was a new experience. Plus, the green room was really green, not graffiti and scuzz, or the back of the van like what I am used to. Practice pays off. Who knew!

Nobody was musical in my direct family - my aunt had a home organ which I loved to mess around on when we'd visit. Another relative had a broken hollow-body guitar in their closet which I saw and asked to repair. I got it somewhat playable and the rest is mystory. :)

By '74 Marley was on Island and equipment was no problem.

My English GF in '76 had done PR for Island (including Free, The Wailers, Nazareth, and Skynyrd) basically shepherding the 'come soon, mon' craziness on tour. According to her all those bands were well taken care of. Why wouldn't they have the best gear available?
True, Natty Dread was a major label release, so that makes sense I suppose.

I'll work on that. I'm afraid my flip phone(!)pictures are kinda low res, but I'll see what I can come up with for 'show and tell'. The action's not horrible-I played last night's 4 hour gig on it, but a tad lower would be nice. I know I could notch the saddles a little but I hate to mess up anything original. Yeah, it's got that custom pickguard, but the original's cracked(I still have it).

Get a Badbird bridge, notch those saddles if necessary.

First: check your neck relief. Fingers on first and last frets on E string. How high off the ninth fret is the string? If it's too much a qualified tech will slightly backbow the neck before tightening the trussrod nut a quarter of a turn. That shouldn't crack your repaired neck while reducing relief and lowering your action.

Lowering the action might reveal the need for leveling or replacing some frets. Routine maintenance.

Some pictures would help. Truss rod may need a slight adjustment, filing saddles is always a option. If the bushings for the anchors are keeping the bridge high you can put the bridge under the bushings in effect bolting the bridge to the bass, however this may take it to low and the you will have to shim bass or treble side maybe both. Of course I recommend a Badbird it does have slightly shorter saddles.

Lot's of musicians in my family, or were. Most are gone now, luckily it rubbed off on me.

You can do it.

Great song! Brings back memories. I taught myself to play by listening to great songs and this was one of my favorites. In fact I loved playing through the Live album. Killer band.
