View attachment 3217661 To all those who got the VP right away, did your bass come with black spacers on both pups? I got my VP this spring with a spacer only on the bridge. I got one via Thunderbucker Ranch. I like it - more consistent.

My VP is a 17 but not sure of the month it was built. Only has a spacer on the bridge pickup ring.

Just walked to the club and played the bass through my rig. Sounds really great, plays...ok. Not bad at all. Neck pickup sounds really nice. Thumpy, but really clear with good punch and presence. Not even slightly muddy. Bridge pickup sounds terrible. Fortunately, the neck pickup sounds fantastic on its own

It’s a ‘71. Went ahead a bought it. Worse case, I can flip it and not lose dough :)

Nice! That looks like the bridge that was on my Mann Armstrong.
If it’s the same bridge, you’ll find the bottom plate is screwed to the body and there are no inserts in the holes in the body. The holes are just there to provide a space for the ends of those 2 bolts. And the saddle is a thin piece of tin plate filled with foam...

The good news is the Hipshot Supertone for 2 bolt Gibsons will fit.

Really?! Good to know! The bridge is pretty wonky

In a way a few basses could work - the "classic" bass used by the legends (Robbie Shakespeare, Aston Barrett) would be a (70's) Jazz but the low-tones come more from the amp than the bass. Neck pu, full bass on the tone control and all the treble stops off the amp. I can imagine 18" drivers (depending on the need, maybe 2) would deliver that room rattling deep-bass response that envelops the space with low end. The venerable Acoustic 360 comes to mind.

Out of the basses I own, through my Ampeg B-15N and w/o brand or model bias - the bass that delivers the roundest, sweetest pillow-like tone is my '66 P-bass with nickel wounds. Would love to hear it at reggae-gig volume through an 18". A close second would be my '65 ss Teisco Del Rey with flats. Something about the pu's. Having said this, I heard a 'deep-bass' reggae band once where the bass player played a Yamaha headless (looked like a Steinberger) that sounded huge.
I’ll bring my JBass tomorrow. I am also going to try my EBO at some point.
I’m not sure how much my rig will need to carry the room at gigs. I have an Ampeg SVT-15E and 210HE, so I can run those stacked for now(at the risk of being arrested by the mixed driver police). Next time I see an SVT-15E cab on CL I’ll probably grab it so I can run 2 x 15s.
Gonna have to make a cab space in my garage!

EB-0's would work as they are famous for the mud and 15" drivers for sure. Definition should be soft and the physical presence at 11, mahn. :) :bassist:

Surprisingly my 2 X 10 fits the trunk. I don't use it to haul gear though, was just driving around the venue earlier. Aust Camaro? You mean like the new ones?
That Monaro is a bitching ride....If exported I believe it would have been very successful..

Ok makes sense.
Yeah the new one. HSV are importing and converting 2SS Camaros to replace the old hot Holdens that are no longer built. The current Mustang is going gangbusters but it is factory RHD, and cheaper. The 300C sells in handfuls. The Supercars racers for 2019 are switching from Falcons to Mustangs (similar to NASCAR it’s just a shape on a common chassis). Holden racers are supposedly remaining on the new imported Commodore but Walkinshaw are talking about Camaro. We now have Camaro & Silverado badged as Chevs everything else Holden including Equinox and Acadia (just released) which are factory RHD (Hooray).
I think as the new full import range tanks (it is) and the Opel/Vauxhall supply dries up.... they will rename the whole thing Chevrolet. By 2022 is my prediction.

Those Monaros are beautiful. I’ve read that there is a bit of Pontiac in the lines, the Rallye wheels were Pontiac. The head designer at the time had arrived at Holden from Pontiac. Unfortunately, the head engineer came from Cadillac... with a philosophy of ‘boulevard ride’ (which is ok) and excessive understeer as a safety feature...
by HQ the Monaro was not the race car and switched to a more Grand Touring focus, the 350 & 308 delivered that. By the end of the HQ run in 74 the 350 had been strangled by the smog laws and the GT focus and only delivered more power than the 308 in the spec pages not noticeably in the road. So 350 died with HQ, HJ had 308 as top V8 and Monaro GTS 308 is a sweet and rare car.
The V2-VZ range from 2002-2006 were exported as Lumina Coupe to the Mid East, Vauxhall Monaro in UK and Pontiac GTO in the US. Holden Monaro & HSV GTO & GTS in Aust... plus very rare Coupe4 with awd.

Looks a beaut, Duke.

I still can’t find a photo of my first bass. c 76/77 looked pretty much the same as Gene Simmons was rocking at the time - as per album cover photos. So Grabber/Ripper-ish with a 2 a side tuners Gibsonish.
But in Natural wood with a clear coat, wood grain showing. Almost as blonde as pine furniture lol.
Regret selling it, peer pressure lead me to LP guitar in black. Looked beautiful but just sat in the corner 99% of the time. :banghead:
