Or the guitarist?Oh, goodie! I'm used to it so I guess I'll leave it alone. One of our guitarists tried it out and commented about the action. I should know better than listening to a guitar player.<EDIT> I'll kick it around(the idea, Not the '67 NR)
If it doesn’t hinder your playing, it’s the guitarist’s problem that he finds the action too high.Until the state of FL picks the right 6 numbers(which I have), I s'pose I'll just keep playing it until one of us croaks. Probably me. There was the the fleeting hope/thought that it could be something simple and inexpensive.![]()
If I get a NR, I know how to complete my look:an NR with black tapewounds would sooo look the part..
David Hood, bass player with Memphis studio band The Swampers played with pretty high action. You can hear the results on tunes by Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, and a host of other recording artists your parents or grandparents boogied on down to...If it doesn’t hinder your playing, it’s the guitarist’s problem that he finds the action too high.

Not my parents. They were strictly big band fans. Having been born to them in '45, I grew up listening to big band-and still play in a couple-but I gravitated to r&r early on. I'll be playing my '67 NR 'Bird with a big band New Year's Eve. See, GenPop? It can be done!David Hood, bass player with Memphis studio band The Swampers played with pretty high action. For about 4 years, I played bass in a big band where my father played bari sax. Quick history: I started on piano at 7, clarinet/bass clarinet beginning at age 12, saxophones through high school, and the Navy music program '64-'68. Started playing bass-on a Navy issue EB3-in '67 and mostly have stayed with bass ever since. I can still make an acceptable noise on sax but I don't consider myself a saxophonist. Last time I played sax(in a concert band), I couldn't at first figure out why my notes sounded 'off'. Then it hit me: treble clef, dummy!I'll do you one better. My father was a musical bigot. He listened to about 6 albums (Barney Kessel, Django Reinhardt). As good as that music is, there is so much more. On the other side, my mother is tonedeaf and listens to easy listening pop (Anne Murray). On the upside, that meant that in my youth, anything I listened to, they hated.
He was a drummer, no???? That's not Elvin Jones is it? If not it's his twin brother!
Let's see the tuners. Earlier ones have taller more 60s like tuners.
He was a drummer, no?
FromHere you go.. Whatcha think? First 4 digits of the serial are 1708 which I thought indicated the year and month of manufacture.
Yeah, I'm trying to leave everything that's 51 y/o in place. Exploring options for now.
Hi all,
I haven't found enough info so I'll ask here...
I'm sure as far as I've read, the Thunder-way-to-go is the new Vintage Pro. Period.
No used Vintage Pro available here in Spain. The only one I've seen flew before I could ask the seller for it. Too bad.
So... The three available models I could get are:
* The classic bolt-on Epiphone Thunderbird in burst finish
* The same as above but in alpine white
* The other alpine white, with chrome hardware/pickups, bolt-on model
* The active Pro model
* The Vintage Pro (I think I've seen one)
If I could get the Vintage-Pro I'd go for it, but in case I could not get one, which of the above is the best buy?
Thanks a lot!
Really? Just how "PC" are we?From View attachment 3219727, this is the info on one of my EpiBirds:

Edit... the link I posted wouldn't work because apparently guitar dater, when put together, spells a word that the TB censorbots don't like so I put the image of the URL instead![]()

Hmm. Hadn't thought of that solution(obviously). I could keep the originals. Sounds like a plan.Purchase some saddles to experiment with cutting deeper notches or filing the bottoms of.
