Thunderbird Club

Until the state of FL picks the right 6 numbers(which I have), I s'pose I'll just keep playing it until one of us croaks. Probably me. There was the the fleeting hope/thought that it could be something simple and inexpensive.:banghead:
If it doesn’t hinder your playing, it’s the guitarist’s problem that he finds the action too high.

an NR with black tapewounds would sooo look the part..
If I get a NR, I know how to complete my look:

David Hood, bass player with Memphis studio band The Swampers played with pretty high action. You can hear the results on tunes by Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, and a host of other recording artists your parents or grandparents boogied on down to...

Not my parents. They were strictly big band fans. Having been born to them in '45, I grew up listening to big band-and still play in a couple-but I gravitated to r&r early on. I'll be playing my '67 NR 'Bird with a big band New Year's Eve. See, GenPop? It can be done!

I'll do you one better. My father was a musical bigot. He listened to about 6 albums (Barney Kessel, Django Reinhardt). As good as that music is, there is so much more. On the other side, my mother is tonedeaf and listens to easy listening pop (Anne Murray). On the upside, that meant that in my youth, anything I listened to, they hated.

For about 4 years, I played bass in a big band where my father played bari sax. Quick history: I started on piano at 7, clarinet/bass clarinet beginning at age 12, saxophones through high school, and the Navy music program '64-'68. Started playing bass-on a Navy issue EB3-in '67 and mostly have stayed with bass ever since. I can still make an acceptable noise on sax but I don't consider myself a saxophonist. Last time I played sax(in a concert band), I couldn't at first figure out why my notes sounded 'off'. Then it hit me: treble clef, dummy!

He was a drummer, no?

yes, a percussive force of nature - so who is that guitarist? I did a search for pics of EJ and it's probably not him - Elvin was more physical/musular looking.

Here you go.. Whatcha think? First 4 digits of the serial are 1708 which I thought indicated the year and month of manufacture.
From

, this is the info on one of my EpiBirds:

Edit... the link I posted wouldn't work because apparently guitar dater, when put together, spells a word that the TB censorbots don't like so I put the image of the URL instead

Hi all,
I haven't found enough info so I'll ask here...

I'm sure as far as I've read, the Thunder-way-to-go is the new Vintage Pro. Period.
No used Vintage Pro available here in Spain. The only one I've seen flew before I could ask the seller for it. Too bad.

So... The three available models I could get are:

* The classic bolt-on Epiphone Thunderbird (plastic pickup covers)
* The same as above but in alpine white
* The other alpine white bolt-on model (chrome hardware/pickups)
* The active Pro model
* The Classic Pro (I think I've seen one)

If I could get the Vintage-Pro I'd go for it, but in case I could not get one, which of the above is the best buy/better quality/better sounding Thunderbird?

Thanks a lot!

Edited: Typo in the model list (Classic Pro instead Vintage Pro)

The model that didn't make your list is the Classic Pro IV which is a neck-through design with the Gibson pickups. Get that one if you can and there should be plenty in the used market.
