Thunderbird Club

yes, a percussive force of nature - so who is that guitarist? I did a search for pics of EJ and it's probably not him - Elvin was more physical/musular looking.
That’s Clarence Gatemouth Brown.
Jim Parrett was a music journalist and now posts a lot of really cool musician photos on his FB page. I had to go back and look that one up.

And I just noticed this one. Roger looks very cross.

The model that didn't make your list is the Classic Pro IV which is a neck-through design with the Gibson pickups. Get that one if you can and there should be plenty in the used market.

Well, I got it in the list but I made a mistake while writting the list. Where "Vintage Pro" it should be "Classic-Pro". That's the one I said I've seen only one (too).

Thanks for the tip.

As a drummer should be. EJ is my holy grail while sitting behind the kit. Just as unobtainable, at least for me.

Classic Pro is the one out of the ones you listed. A bolt-on is a somewhat different beast. I like them, but they aren't the standard issue 'Bird, and they are often a little on the heavy side. I didn't like the active electronics at all. That might be my problem, not yours, so try that one out to see if you like it. It's neck-through and they tend to be inexpensive for what you get. The bridge is a bit different, as is the control setup.

David Hood, bass player with Memphis studio band The Swampers played with pretty high action. You can hear the results on tunes by Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, and a host of other recording artists your parents or grandparents boogied on down to...
I played one of Rocco Prestia's P basses at a jam once in the 90's and he really favored some high action...
almost unplayable..

Boasting about the kid - from Saturday night down in LA. I don't know who took this video, but I'm really happy whoever it was did and then put it on YouTube.

He starts soloing at about 3:54. At one point, he disappeared off of stage right, and then reappeared halfway through the song playing a trumpet solo over at stage left, from behind the stack of keys. It was a complete surprise. He said that's what they had intended. I didn't notice that he had been playing keys the whole song, up to the point. He said that was also intended. There's no video of it, which is a shame. It was a long solo, and I thought it was great. But then, I would, now wouldn't I.

I didn't find any posted video from the first band, Mestizo Beat, but he played in both. Being a little hyper is genetic, and it serves him well.

If you ever get a chance to see either Orgone or Mestizo Beat, take it. He may or may not be playing with them at the time, but they both put on a fantastic show. One last thing, Orgone's bass player, Dale, is a TB member, but actually spends his time playing and practicing. Which means he plays in bands like Orgone, unlike some of the rest of us who probably better keep their day jobs. (Me, for example.) He's a great guy, and I'm really happy to have met him in person. Orgone will be in Seattle in January, at Nectar in Fremont. If I can make it, I plan to get down there to see them, whether or not the kid is with them that show or not.

Thanks for that info - cool pic of The Who. It was probably the result of impatience with the photo-shoot - gave them just the right amount of "when is this going to end" attitude. :) I looked but couldn't find it but there was a funny B&W vid of a pained Townshend waiting for a long (Dutch?) interview question. The interviewer finally stopped, there's a pause and w/o emotion he answers - no. :D

Very Nice! You should be proud:D

I know Roy Clark did much more, but this is what I associate him with:

I'm a pickin and I'm grinnin!

oh man, what memories....for us budding players in the days of no cable and only three national networks I used to really look forward to this show as it was pretty much the only guaranteed weekly TV event where you could see basses and bass players.....virtuosity (didn't know how good these guys were, I was only 13) was just icing on the cake....

Today's go take a look.

'87, last year made. 307 TBI. 107k. I've owned a pair of series 1, a pair of Series 3, seems like a Series 5 might complete the experience. Asking less than either of my '60s birds cost.

They clean up pretty nice.

Well yes, but all three of those guys were a household name then for more than boob-tube cornball humor! :)
