Thunderbird Club

Well, I finally bought a Broughon High/Low pass filter pedal. They had one with some kind of paint defect for a whopping $8 off. I'm a sucker for a deal. Now that I have been playing the '91 with tapes and don't have fret click, I have a pedal that will tame fret click. Brilliant! I didn't like the way it sounded for some reason last night, so I'll probably play something else for a bit. Too much light green in the sound. How did that get there? Who knows. It wasn't there before. The factory wiring defects seem to be sparking away in the inter-aural cavity for the time being. I'll play a different one with more blue in the sound. Apparently that's what I want to hear for the time being.

My personal simian ancestry is more recent than most. The rest is CroMagnon and Appalachian. It explains a lot.

You still need a 'Bird. Maybe a short scale or a Fenderbird made with a Jaguar neck. Everyone who is anyone needs at least one 'Bird. It's like having a Precision, only a little more stylish.

I can attest to that. Two Birds and two Precision’s. But I take cromag a step further. Just add in the Chechen alien.

Personally, I think it’s a good piece of kit. I hear ya on the green. The blue is easy to dial in.

What the hell. The gangs all here.

I'm built like a fire-hydrant. I have no trouble with the reach on a bird. Just need to find a strap that is at least 60" (whereas standard is 54" or so). Can't play a bird like some funk guy with your bass covering your nipples.

Couch is the answer, all of theirs are long I’m 6’4” and they fit me well

Nah. Mine is hanging (as seen in the avatar)low on my right hip w/ the lower bout covering my....uh....fly, that's it. I'm short enuff that I don't have a problem finding straps. It'd be even easier if I was less round.:bag:

Just got a Bc Rich SE zombie for 140 which came with a 50 dollar strap llololol it’s thicker, wider and longer.... so the neck dive, extreme weight, and feeling like I’m standing beside the Gibson Nikki Sixx Blackbird instead of right over top of it...all gone. Awesome. It’s surprising how much changes by simply dropping the bass lower and of course a different strap. A little harder to play but it has a forced minimalist effect on you. Lol

A very different feel and therefore approach to picking or plucking... different rhythms and accentuation. It’s like playing a different instrument and I must admit if feels and looks cool as hell. I’ve always been more about function and kept my instruments high.

If you’re bored and feeling stuck try something silly like this. See for fun what it forces you to change or write just to make it work.

Please quote me in responses because this is literally one of the most active threads in this forum and impossible to keep up with, without specific quote alerts. Lol

ThunderBuckers require a very slight amount of enlarging the original Pro IV pickup routes. It's easy to do with a flat file or 60 grit sandpaper if you don't have a router.

I gave this one a full makeover with ThunderBucker Ranch supplied parts, except for the pickguard and knobs.

Awesome! How about another question for y’all?

Which strings do you like on a bird? I’m a flats guy, but probably should consider some roundwounds for this setup. I’ll take suggestions for either, though.

I like lights on everything I’ve only ever tried the Ernie ball extra slinky 95 to 40... I think the 40 is too thin and seems out of place but the rest are great. I always hated standard gauges I’d go between the a and the e and it would sound dead and out of proportion just not balanced
