'63 update: John Higgins has declined to take on the repair job. The headstock break fix looks like it was a very poor epoxy job; he deemed it too much effort to rebreak and fix it correctly. I'll be taking it to Goez Instrument Repair next to see if Skip Goez is willing to do anything with it. If Skip says no, I've got one more guy in the area that I'll take it to, then I'll start looking into shipping it off (perhaps to one of you fine fellows).

I could still just throw some strings on and see if it holds, but I'd prefer to do the due diligence and see if I can get it repaired correctly before I risk damaging it further.

It's worth the effort, just on account of what it is whether it's a '63 or 64. I sure hope it gets done easily for you. It is certainly worth spending some money on, especially when considering the initial price.

Here's an oddball for sale. It's a 2019, or so they say, with a finish I have never seen before and a firebird logo on the pick guard.

I don't quite know what to make of it. One off, perhaps? I'm not convinced that cherry burst looks very good on mahogany, but that's just me. The pick guard with a red firebird on it would look pretty good on one of the lipstick red 'Birds.

Could be it’s so messed up it will need a new headstock. I did that job on a Les Paul Goldtop many years ago. Of course that didn’t have all the laminations -even more work to make it look stock.
Has it been positively identified as a 63?

Pretty sure I read somewhere that 63 didn’t have the multi layered neck.

Looking back at the pictures, the problem isn't the break, it's the epoxy. How do you remove the epoxy without removing wood?
I wonder what Dan Erlewine would do?

Heritage cherry burst is one of the colours for 2019 and they have gone from Babicz back to 3 point bridges. The firebird logo is odd though.

And that the TB-plus pups are in the pro line of Birds... not the Goth’s.

Tbh, I wouldn’t go for the Studio either. They are tanks with set necks. For not much more you can get a neck thru Gibson. But that’s just my opinion
