Thunderbird Club

Welcome back! Curious if your NR T-Bird project was ever completed?
Thanks! Oh, man. No, not yet. It's pretty crazy. But the luthier's hand injuries severely delayed things. I'll follow up after the new year. But (un)fortunately it's not like it's really a rush, with a serious lull in any sort of band activity.

The original 360 hangs out in the basement. It is the practice amp from hell. I don't crank it up all that far. The Grexa reissue gets out to play fairly regularly. I'm debating whether to take it out for the New Year's Eve gig or not. We will be playing quietly, but it has a knob that goes both ways.

It's a nice one but an outrageous asking price. Maybe worth half that considering what it is, who owned it (no pun intended) and the provenance. But $25,000 for a refin CBS P bass that hasn't (AFAIK) been used on any recordings or live performances is beyond a bit steep.

I own probably one of the top ten rarest basses from John's collection and probably couldn't get a quarter of that price at a Sotheby's auction. All that said, any instrument is worth as much as the highest bidder is willing to pay for it. I'll be sure to keep my eye on the sale, can't wait to see what it actually goes for (if Gruhn will even share that info).
Is that bass something you can show and tell?

Hi, all. Long time. You guys are chatty as ever.

My wife and I went to see Yo La Tengo on 12/9 for one of their Hanukkah shows and Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet opened. The bassist, Dallas Good, was playing a 1976 Thunderbird, which was Reid Diamond's, their original bassist.

I was really enjoying the La Bella Stainless Steel strings, but found out from La Bella last week that they're discontinuing that line soon in favor of their lower-tension Rx series, so I'm back on the Rotosound RS66 and though initially a bit upset, I feel fine about it.

Welcome back!

Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, if memory serves, are a Toronto band. They provided the theme song for Kids in the Hall. I had no idea they were still together; I don't think I have spared a thought for them since something on the order of 2000.
