Yes it might. They don't seem to be selling many. There are a lot of traditionalists who were quick to badmouth the pickup change even before any were in the stores. Mine was at my local GC since August. As I read the SN, it was built in January. I don't get all the fuss; it sounds like a TBird to me. I played it alongside a 2014. I admit I'm not an expert, but after fiddling with the tapping switches and tone pot, they sounded the same to me. It certainly is fun to play.MCF, that's a sweet 'Bird!
It seems a bit uncertain what Gibson will do with basses for 2016, maybe the winter NAMM show will bring some solid news. The 2015 version could become very collectable!
Fedex should have a present for me today!![]()
I'm like, it's Sunday? You Aussies and your 18 hours ahead![]()
I'm not advocating getting in to debt but................................
I would go for it if I thought I had a good shot at paying it off quickly. I wouldn't want to drag the payments out any longer than I had too tho. You have to follow your gut on a decision like this. Keep in mind that you are asking a bunch of Bird hoarders for advice on purchasing a Bird. We will always tell you to buy it if the conditions are right![]()
I just hope that it isn't a permanent hiatus, and they're just doing it to gauge the market demand. If they see that there's still a viable market for their basses, they'll roll them out. I hope they do, because Gibby's are as iconic as Fenders, and they're totally different animals. It would be a shame for them to be discontinued.MCF, that's a sweet 'Bird!

Thought so, but it's not like you guys gave me green light. Most of you guys got alot of experience purchasing stuff and that info is much appreciated. I think I'm trying to go for it.
One thing you could do - Talk with your new boss, you say the job is going well it might be a good idea to know how he feels.
I totally understand where you're at, it's happened to me too many times!

This is true, but hopefully the long tenure of the T-Bird, and to a lesser extent, the EB/SG Models, will sway Henry to do the right thing and keep producing them, and at a reasonable price.I agree. Henry J is the one wrecking Gibson, they have a long history of disco'ing basses after short runs..........The list is almost painful, I don't like the guy.
2013 Gibson Memphis ES 335 Bass.
Arrived and just lovely- unsurprisingly sounds like a TBird, maybe a little brighter.
Quite a snarl when played closer to the bridge, beautiful warm tone when played closer to the neck.
Very similar neck to my Ripper, which has one of my favourite necks.
Absolutely NIL neck dive. Weight 9 pounds.

To show how amazingly shiny it is.

I'll post some more pics when I figure out how to photograph such a shiny black thing better.
Oh man!!
That is absolutely stunning!!!
Nearly bought a Pelham Blue Midtown (old model) a little while ago, but procrastinated too long and missed it - Been looking for one since then...
How does this differ from the Midtown?

I don't know what's up with that, but it sounds like an outstanding deal if you can pick one up. I have an EB with those pickups, and I like them. They are a little different from Thunderbird pickups, but since they are coil tapped, you can get all kinds of different sounds out of them. I'm out of town for work, which means that GC is the official place I go to get my hands on a bass when on the road and I'll take a look. Not that I have a grand lying around, but it's pretty tempting if they have one somewhere.
In other news, the chrome project is started with parts ordered. Philadelphia Luthier Supply is out of chrome covers, but they are going to let me know when they are back in stock. I don't remember whether the covers on my 'Bird have screwed on covers or if they are blank, meaning they are epoxied on like they are on Epi Thunderbirds.
GC has too many sitting in their stores and is blowing them out. Fantastic deal. I was told when I got mine it was only for in-store stock, not online. At least at this point.Walked into a Guitar Center recently and saw they had a clearance 2015 Gibson Thunderbird for $999 ... whats up with that? Is there no love for the new model? Is the music man-ish pickups turning people off?
That would make sense since they are still listed at over $2000 online for them, MF, and SW.GS has too many sitting in their stores and is blowing them out. Fantastic deal. I was told when I got mine it was only for in-store stock, not online. At least at this point.
You mean the Pro Steels?
