Thunderbird Club

Not a bird but I know some of you have experience with Hamer Basses. How are they to play with? Sound? Feel? Like/dislike & why? Thanks in advance. http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/151873942116

And how much is to much to pay for such a bass?

I should add this to the question at hand as well:
Hamer Velocity 2 Ash VEL2A Electric Bass Guitar 811501001218 | eBay

I have no experience with the Hamer Velocity basses but I do have one of their import basses. It is well made and sounds and plays great. My US made Hamers are amazing basses. Very well made and play incredibly well. The Velocity basses tend to hover around $200 on eBay and GC's used site it seems.

<snip> I am thinking keep it trans black. We'll see. Maybe another color...

The Goths didn't come in trans black did they? More of a flat black. A very opaque, solid color.

Got the goth for $100 cash.

Pics later and deciding what to do with her.

Sweet price! You got me beat buy $10 or $12! Can't remember exactly how much I paid but that was the price shipped and it was near perfect. Gotta love a steal!

It's a flat finish. But kinda busted up around the input so ther could be a slight color change in the future for it. Not sure what I will do yet.

I have two Hamer Blitz basses, essentially the same bass except one is white and one is black. J pups. MIA's bought in the '83/'84 time-frame. I have no complaints with the basses themselves, love them actually but they don't get much play time these days due to their size, more specifically the cases. It's like lugging around coffins! I haven't been able to score a decent yet affordable gig bag for my TBirds so I hold no illusions that I can find one for the Blitzes. Again, no complaints with the basses themselves, sound and playability is quite nice actually. I can't speak toe the Velocity though as I've never been in the same room as one, yet.

Both Rockbag, Ritter and Crossrock makes nice and affordable gigbags specifically for Thunderbirds...

Played her out for the first time last night. Two things:

1. Near the end of the night I noticed the G strong was flatlined down onto the fret board. One of the screws on the bridge was almost completely loosened up. Not sure why. Of course I didn't touch it. Anyone have this issue with the babicz?

2. Sounded OK. Not amazing. But OK. It's gonna take some time to dial her in.

Felt great. Looked great. She's got a little adjusting to do. But for the most part I can see this bass becoming my new number one.

The Blitzes will fit in this: Explorer Bass gig bag

There's also a slightly cheaper version with less padding available. Hamers are great basses!

The jack had been yanked out of the face on my Goth, which is why I decided to do a total makeover on it. I had planned on replacing the jack with a Strat jack plate but then I got ambitious and went for the total makeover. I am going to use the Strat jack plate on my burst Epi so I can get rid of that switch on the front.

Your goth looks better now anyways with chrome & gun metal grey XP Is the switch on the burst a momentary kill a la Morello ?

The Hamer cases are looooong!! The Blitz and FBIV (Bird shape) cases are 53" long, which is an inch longer than a Gibson Bird case. I think some time back we discussed case sizes and I mistakenly claimed the Gibson case was longer than the Hamers. Turns out I measured the wrong case when I was comparing them. :meh:
