Thunderbird Club

That’s a perfectly valid argument to have with ones self! I kinda went through it with my ‘02 Gibson ‘Bird. Paid $900 or so for the bass, shipped. Two Lollars, Hipshot bridge and tuners added another aprox $600 to that. The upside is it gets played more than any of my other basses and now that it’s done, I wouldn’t change a thing

Pretty much the exact same scenario for my 2014 Gibson bird. Exact same results!

Not sure about that! I’m not a collector, but I was sad to ship that one off. Super nice bass

I don't think of myself as a collector either, but, I've made a few ( in retrospect) poor decisions about selling basses - who hasn't! Of course there have been some that haven't gotten any regrets too. :)

Mark, I'm disappointed, you really do "need" some more Thunderbirds :woot:

I don't understand the quotes around need. It isn't like want; that I could understand. You "want" more Thunderbirds - meaning, really it is a need that we are understating. By putting quotes around you are implying an existential threat should he not acquire more `birds? Actually, now that I explain it, I understand. Carry on..

More like arguing with myself as to whether it's justifiable to put a $300-$400 neck on an $800 bass.

That's totally worth it. In the end, I'll have put in a decent amount of money into my RNR, but as someone said to me, I'm getting practically a brand new bass out of it. I just hope I like playing it after all this wait.

There are times i don't care what it takes or costs. 2 of my 4 have a bit of dough into them. And they turned out spectacular. It's always a gamble. It's just what we do if we feel it's right. If you know it's not a going to be a keeper, well, then i get it.
But this is your resident Chechen alien talking. I like to lurk in slimy crevasses waiting for my chance to pounce.

I think you already have.;)

Well, 'Birdless guy here... got a question for yawl...

Is there any consensus on the worthiness of the Spector Rex5? I need a 5er, and this looks interesting.

If course, it's only a rendition of a 'Bird, and there would necessarily be another, if I were so chosen.

Worthiness as in price, or a worthy bass to play? I have tried a couple and liked them, but the shape was a bit "off" for me. I liked the sound and play-ability of them and the sound was more or less what you expect from a Spector. By that I mean it sounded great to me and I would own one if the situation was right. They seem to hover around $500-600 used on GC.

Yeah the look is a little funny, but I reconcile that in that it's a Spector, and it's a 5 string, which in my mind has always been its own thing, even a novelty. A 5er gets permission to be a little "off"...
And the price is as you mention, $550. I'm going to try and offer a trade. Trades don't seem to be much of a thing, but nothing I'm trying to sell is selling...

Also have a bike on an indoor trainer in that room plus all the cases and gig bags. The need for room outweighs the need for stuff at the moment. Sold a couple amps too
