Thunderbird Club

Speaking of Secret Treaties, here's a Hunter-Thompson-drug-induced-stupor-style review from years later that's as bizarre as BOC's lyrics. And the only review I have ever seen mention Granicus, much less suggest a Granicus/Alice Cooper musical lovechild.
I had to review one of Granicus's albums for the Technique. Apart from "I'm Getting Out (of Cleveland, Ohio)", there might have been one other song I could stand on the album. And I might have stood IGO(oCO) only because of my impression of Cleveland from my Ohio classmates at Ga Tech.
Anyway, the idea of a collaboration between them and Alice is right up there with trying to decipher "Harvest of Eyes". But hey, at least the Oyster boys are swimming with me now (and forever)!

(Whatever the pros and cons of the reviewer's writing style, I love his choice of music. BOC's Secret Treaties and Alice Cooper's Killer? Oh, yeah.)

All this talk about Jazz got me thinking. I kinda lump Jazz into one of three different buckets. There's Cool Jazz or Smooth Jazz, I really like it and play it a fair amount. Then there's Frantic Jazz, which I don't like so much, it's a lot of stuffing notes in where you really don't need any. And there's Abstract Jazz, which I just don't get, lots of talent in each player but to my untrained ears it's sounds like each player is playing a different song mostly in the same key and never really could repeat the song note for note at a later date.

I'm funnin'. I like-and play-a lot of jazz. Doing a jazz jam tonight. Unfortunately, typing doesn't indicate 'tongue firmly imbedded in cheek'.

20 years ago, I made a record with one of my old bands...the label said we needed another song, so I recorded this with me on upright and some dudes who actually can play jazz. The label was less than thrilled...

I hope I didn’t come off as dissing because I love jazz, I just suck at playing it :)

I've always use the phrase "close enough for jazz" - so I get the fun aspect of ribbing jazzers and jazz and am pretty discriminant of what jazz music I listen to. I think all jazzers (like Adam Neely) also have fun with it. I used to commonly dis bands/artists/songs I didn't like but am doing my best not to do that anymore because many someones like that music/band/artist and they wouldn't be a known entity if they didn't work hard to achieve that notoriety. :)

That "6 Jazz" song is pretty great! Reminds me of comedy songs from the 60's! :D

I can't be that cynical about jazz. I recently saw The Nels Cline 4 and whatever they consider/call their music - it was awesome in every way. Miles never liked using the term "jazz" - he just called it music (as in, the music of Miles Davis) I try not to dis musicians of any style who express a high level of musicianship, even if it's not my thing.

I think that there is nothing so serious in music that you can't make a joke about it. I don't need to dislike something to make jokes at it's expense; many things that I like I will make fun of.
But, I come from the long military tradition of "gallows humour". Sacred cows make the best hamburgers.

I’m also a fan of so called ‘scorched earth’ comedy

I like it. If Miles is the Elvis of Jazz, 'Trane must be the Lennon.

Solid theory! I just knew we were running out of studio time and the musicians were about to pack up, so I made up some random nonesense on the spot

Well improvised!

You’d never know from that track, but the players are all A list session dudes who can play jazz for real, but I wanted something silly, so I said “play some of that wanky herion jazz” or words to that effect :)
