BassBurner strings came in today...that’s good news. I find it funny that these are possibly my favorite string for rock music, but all the endorsers featured on the back are fusion dudes

AFAIK
I Firebird, 1 x pup
II Thunderbird with neck pup only
III Firebird, 2 pup
IV Thunderbird with neck pup + superfluous pup
V Firebird, 2 pup
VII Firebird, 3 pup
At the risk of showing my ignorance (and that has never stopped me) what is the difference between III and V?
I always thought the A was an 85. I just looked at the Long & Mcquade site and see there’s:Before my conversion to Bass Burners, there was something bothering me about the feel of the Rotos, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Post Bass Burner I worked out it was the 80 A string, which you wouldn't think was discernably thinner than an 85.

I always thought the A was an 85. I just looked at the Long & Mcquade site and see there’s:
RS66LF long scale 45 65 85 105
RS66EL extra long scale 45 65 80 105
I can’t think of a reason for the difference.
That was my favorite BOC studio album, and I love those two songs. I wrote a parody of the latter once on usenet, but it disappeared even before the archives did.If you check the liner notes parts of that were recorded in Seattle at The Paramont - happy to say I was there, saw them at least 5 times. FWIW "Secret Treaties" is their best to my ears, all these years later and it's still a fave, especially ME262 and Astronomy.
I’m going to check what I put on my VP.The LF set says 'custom gauge' on the packet, the LD 'standard' set 45 65 80 105 says 'standard gauge'. Maybe it's a JAE thing? He liked the 80?
If we slaughter a couple of chickens and walk backwards around the graveyard thrice, @Dadagoboi will appear to impart his arcane knowledge.
I never knew about the odd/even serial number thing.

If you need medical attention, it's Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine and Dr. Howard. Now i need representation.
Guess i gotta call in Dewey/Cheatem and Howe.
Precisely. It is at least curious why a one pu bass is branded "II" and a two pu bass "IV", but they had to brand it with something to differentiate the two. The Brits used to do the "Mk I", "Mk II" branding which is even more formal/aristocratic and the "I", "IV" is most likely a carryover from that. And when they spell it out - it's Marque I or II which has no "k" in it ...

Just play some out of key notes in an odd time signature.
