Really only need one + a spare. A fourth would be an NR or an EB3L (although I would be lying if I said I didn't consider turning the soon to be redundant P neck into a Franken P). My inclination is to remain a Thunderbird purist and the likelihood of a suitable and affordable NR II materialising are next to nil.

If I'm not messing around, I'll tell you money spent on recording gear is more useful at this point in proceedings. The Mod may grumble a bit, but he's quietly pleased that I'm doing something useful and creative with my spare time, and fully supportive of the new band (thought I was wasting my time with the old one).

I have a few nice 70s era Rokkor lenses. Any idea if they’ll work with the Sony bodies? I’ve been out of the photog loop for a couple of decades...

I honestly have no clue. Sony bought Minolta, so they wanted to keep the lens mounting style. Which Minolta put out in 1985

I am a 35mm Nikon and medium format Pentax guy; I have never tracked Minolta gear, so I am not a reliable source. Minolta changed their mount in the 80s as did many camera companies to allow the incorporation of additional features. IIRC Nikon, Pentax, and Canon kept their mount from the 60s ensuring that any updates/improvements were backward compatible.

Best bet to find out is to take a lens to a camera store and see if it fits. And if they are collecting dust and you want to get rid of them, a decent camera store will have a thriving used section (much like a music store). Ebay/Craig's List etc. are also options.

I am sure tongue planted firmly in cheek. In a stable marriage, you would ask and the answer would be go ahead if it makes you happy (possibly/probably with conditions related to financial, space, and other considerations)

I too am a member of the born-again bachelors club. We know that divorces are expensive because they are worth it. But know that it is the right thing because there is a feeling of relief and joy in saying "none of your flipping* business".

I have started taking the Marie Kondo approach to relationships - always ask if the relationship brings me joy and if not, it is going. My teeth may regret me taking that approach with my dentist...


*obviously not flipping, a much harsher word that isn't allowed here.

I currently have an epi-frankenbird. Spector tonepump, active EMGs, All parts P neck. I'm trying to get that Spector tone and it's close. (My main bass is a Haz equipped Euro) I have a SNC 3 band pre, and I'm really thinking on pulling the trigger on a Legend 4X. How did your Legend 4X compare to some of your other birds? Neck dive any more of an issue? I like my current bird, but the Epi body is too thin for my SNC pre. I'm also not a fan of the 3 point bridge. So in your mind would the 4X be an upgrade over the Epi-body?

The Legend 4X was nice, but I had completely upgraded the electronics. The body was thicker than any bird I have owned, but not heavy. The SNC pre fit with no problems and matched up perfectly with the holes for the vol-tone knobs. I thought the 2+2 headstock would eliminate neck dive but it didn't. The body was very light. I think the website says it has a maple body but this one had to be basswood or something equally soft. Had to reinforce all of the strap button screws because they stripped out super easy. Even using recessed straplocks the screws would not hold for long. Once I did the toothpick trick for the screws they held firm. The fit and finish were very good and once I had everything the way I wanted it, it was a great player. I don't know if I would call the 4X an upgrade over the Epi, just different. I would buy another no problem. The Epi definitely weighs more. Hope this helps.

I will have to mess with that a bit and see what happens. So far, all Basement of Bad Ideas recording has been essentially a recorded rehearsal with all of us. It makes for some balance issues, especially when the drummer gets going a bit. One of these years, it would be fun to put together some music and do the recording like a person who knows how to actually record, and lay down the drum track and then each subsequent layer over the top of that. Time is a problem, though.

Especially this drummer. It could be worse, I could also be a singer - then I would get stuck on the porch without the key and not knowing when to come it. Except, wait, I do that, too. Crap. The pile of musical failure mounts!

One tactic I tried, which failed of course, was to suggest a bunch of stuff I’d really never buy and then try to convince her to let me settle for just one thing. That was when I was seriously considering trying to get that ACC 360 that was up in Seattle a while back.

But at the end of the day I do have a decent group of basses that make me happy.

I just use the investment angle...."these are going up in price Sugar".....has worked well...

Sounds like he gets it and might actually be onto it. It's funny how my wife picks up on things like bands, even though she doesn't outwardly seem to be paying attention.
