I had one for a while. I gave it to my brother, who had another one so he has a stereo pair now. It's a figure 8 pattern, which I have a hard time dealing with in the Basement of Bad Ideas. Once I discovered directional ribbons, the world changed for the better. I would love to have a BK-5, but Shure 330s are keeping me happy for now. I haven't ever even seen a BK-5, so I only want one because it's an RCA and, well, RCA.I dunno about that, but at the price, it seems a worthy experiment. There are few things I prefer over my AEA R84, but I’m looking for something(s) a bit different to go with it
Who knew you had such a stentorian voice!

Yeah, I'm shallow. Brand names are almost as good as shiny. Beats me if I would like it any better than the Shures if I got my hands on one.
My experience with one was that it was a thoroughly durable mic. It was not delicate like ribbons are supposed to be. I never hit it with a stick to find out, but it got dropped a few times and never missed a beat. The ribbon is a little thicker than the really high end ribbons, which makes it a tad less responsive but a whole lot tougher. My take is that your ears have to be more golden than mine to have any quibbles with it.Specs look pretty stellar. I await your verdict. Could be very nice in a 4 mic drum setup.
Dammit! Now I have paint GAS. No need for another 'Bird, just the need to refinish. Maybe the 2015 needs to change colors. Thanks Geoff, it's not Inverness Green, I'd call it 7UP Green (don't know if you have that in Oz), at some point I'd really like to have an Inverness Green Bird - Pelham Blue as well.
Because I need another green 'Bird

Based on the one I had, it will work for a lot of things. I'm convinced by Avantone mics. The SDC mics are Avantones and so is the LDC tube mic. The condensers are a bit bright, but I have had really good results putting both a 330 and the CV-12 tube condenser on a female singer. It was flattering as hell, which is exactly what you want when you are recording a singer.I’ve only ever had one ribbon mic that wasn’t figure of eight. If it works for anything, at least it wasn’t expensive![]()

Not really. My reaction is that the person hasn't ever played anything made by Gibson at all. That person may play well, but being a virtuoso doesn't mean not an ignorant idiot.Anybody else ever read someone going 'Thunderbird/EB3/other Gibson is very tonally limited' and your reaction to this is you really don't want to hear that person play, almost to the point of dread?

Good sounds. Love the concise demo.Under the heading 'ask and you'll receive', I offer this demo of the 67, the 70 Kasino and the EHX Micro POG.For whatever reason, it won't upload. Go on YT, IMG3448/EHX Micro POG demo

watch it be a 4001..All this talk of GAS got me looking out on the Guitar Center used site. Was looking for something different, not a duplicate (looks or sound wise) to what I already have.
BINGO - this just jumped out at me, I figure this bird sounds completely different than any of my other birds...

I have no idea if I'm gonna get a Jazzmaster (or whatever that thing in the picture is called) or even a 2015 TBird. In either case, GC has a fantastic return policy, so the most I'm out is the 5 minutes it took to drop it in the shopping cart and hit send.
Taking bets...
will it be a guitar? Will it be the guitar pictured? Will it be a Gibson? Will it be a Thunderbird? Will it be a 2015 Gibson Thunderbird?
This is like winning a door prize, might be something I don't want or need, or it might be something really cool. Can't wait for the FedEx guy to arrive.![]()
