All this talk of GAS got me looking out on the Guitar Center used site. Was looking for something different, not a duplicate (looks or sound wise) to what I already have.

BINGO - this just jumped out at me, I figure this bird sounds completely different than any of my other birds...

I have no idea if I'm gonna get a Jazzmaster (or whatever that thing in the picture is called) or even a 2015 TBird. In either case, GC has a fantastic return policy, so the most I'm out is the 5 minutes it took to drop it in the shopping cart and hit send.

Taking bets...
will it be a guitar? Will it be the guitar pictured? Will it be a Gibson? Will it be a Thunderbird? Will it be a 2015 Gibson Thunderbird?

This is like winning a door prize, might be something I don't want or need, or it might be something really cool. Can't wait for the FedEx guy to arrive.

I have transferred GAS. Sent my guitarist a link from Reverb.com and she now has a reverb pedal on the way. All the fun with none of the expense.

Truth be told, I love GC! Some of my best deals were from there. Always been treated very well by every one of their sales people at every store across the country. They have by far (head and shoulders) better used gear selection than anyone on the planet and a return policy that would bankrupt smaller sellers. Sure the sales staff is hit and miss, sure they have blunders on their website listings but I've yet to be screwed by them. Can't say that about some mom and pop stores I've dealt with, not to mention private and eBay sellers.

Ask me about my G&L eBay purchase back in 2010 if you want a real thriller.

As anyone who only pays attention half the time will be aware, I have been after some microphones for recording.

A few weeks ago, I found a mic that I wanted at a good price on Gumtree and contacted the seller. Took a couple of days for him to get back to me but when he realised I was serious, he was keen to sell. The only problem was he was in Japan atm -- 'I'll be home in a week'. A week rolls around and I contact him again -- 'sorry I'm in Japan for another week'. Finally he's back and get his details and I paypal him using a VISA giftcard, plus a small topup.

About an hour later, he gets back to me -- 'so sorry, while I was in Japan my family sold the mic and didn't tell me'. It only took around 2 weeks for the funds to be refunded onto the VISA giftcard. I took this as an omen I wasn't supposed to spend that money on a mic, so I bought a new bass neck instead.

Anybody else ever read someone going 'Thunderbird/EB3/other Gibson is very tonally limited' and your reaction to this is you really don't want to hear that person play, almost to the point of dread?

What’s sad is how ill-informed that person is. I was playing my VP jamming some jazz last week and we did “Invitation” at a really fast tempo. I cranked up the bridge PU and dialed back the neck PU, tone was at about 6, and I was playing near the bridge. It was not really a Jazz bass tone, but very articulate and totally worked! That same bass can produce some very different sounds.
It’s pretty versatile.
