Thunderbird Club

Boy my wife is gonna hate you guys. So I have been digging into the VP, love the white. Several videos to get a feel for the sound, rock solid reviews for the most part. This may be exactly what I am looking for.
Hey I work hard, make decent money...pretty sure I deserve this step up. Any gotchas or things I should look out for if I go on this hunt?

If you can't afford any of the options that Duke laid out, the VP is a great choice. I have a black one and used it at the last gig with no complaints. As Duke stated, I wouldn't trade one of my Gibson's for one but I love my VP!!

I've asked this before, really, please, someone stop me.

I'm never going to tell you to stop posting Siouxsie.

That’s the way it’s done! Works amazingly well. Or pull a Queens of the Stoneage and use like 5 amps with 6 mics on each cab for a single take :)

Doesn't really go with my minimalist ambitions = 4 tracks for drums, 2 for bass, 1 for guitar ... fvcking gu***rists get off my lawn ... however, one must be adaptable.

Mmmmmm.....Yes, Mike can make a nice bass.

Oh dang I didn't even realize that thing resided locally.

I uh......should go demo it.

Umm...ok :/
I like guitarists, but that’s me :)

I guess it depends on how much you want the room involved in the sound. With dynamics on guitar cabs, most just shove em up against the grill. Certain ribbons work great close mic’d (Royer R121 comes to mind). But most RCA derivitaves seem to work better away from the source. I had a phase where I didn’t close mic anything because I wanted everything to ‘breathe.’ Each individual track sounds awesome that way, but mixing was a nightmare of ‘everything louder than everything else.’
I recently discovered that Royer ribbons at something like 4 microns thick. That is aluminum plate relative to even the cheap ones. Engineering is amazing.

You are welcome. We are here to enable after all. Except I am not sure if it counts when you are endorsed.

There ain’t no ‘free’ with endorsements these days. Not often, anyway. It’s either half off, cost deal, or some other services to justify it to the companies. I don’t mind because at this point I only endorse stuff I really love to use.

Just be aware that you are beginning a flock. 'Birds have chosen you. No reason to fight it. Just enjoy their company. Your wife will understand. Or, just send her here and we can explain. I am sure that would work out well.

Just like racing sponsorships. I got tires at half price, which on a 600 meant something like $300 per race weekend instead of $600. Which just goes to show that you could be spending money on worse things than Cloud mics.

The neck is beyond words, simply beautiful.
My wallet was tingly, I am weak to the charms of Thunderbirds - that one is a Siren that calls out.

Their internal clocks / senses of routines are amazing, aren't they?

Yes, it's the best thing ever to have an afternoon nap with a loving kitty, often it's the best part of my weekends.

As near perfect as that bass is: I would never spend that much money on a bass. Not unless I came into A LOT of money and/or got an AMAZING job.

I know, but I want to crank it up thru my SWR cab so bad - dammit!

Have you looked into the Shure KSM 313? Some weird new substance in place of the ribbon. Tech that Shure took after their purchase of Crowley & Tripp. Clips I’ve heard are really impressive, but it’s quite expensive. I don’t know enough about that sort of thing, but the ‘ribbon’ supposedly never loses its shape and it seems like really great tech.

maybe he prefers to go by Merle?..

I wish he preferred to go to Siberia
