Thunderbird Club

Here I was thinking I was gonna be all cool and upgrade the hell out of this lower end TBird, new bridge, tuners, whatever it takes....now.....doesnt seem so bright(see what I did there). Hmmm....Guess I'll hang onto all these parts and see if I can find a deal on something a bit better. That 64' that may be sold sounded intriguing until I saw they were going for the price of a used RV.
If you're in the market for another bass at a bargain price check out the Epiphone Thunderbird VP. It's a killer deal and has an exceptionally agressive tone. Not at all like it's other Eppi TB brethren.

If i could only be as mellow as Frankie. He's just got his eye on us humans. Sort of a protector. He'd ask, would you like if snuggled with you? Random thing from me ya know.

Dogs are one of the finest things in this world, and that’s a fine looking pup!
I’ve heard some say the same about cats. Maybe their cats. Mines a total d!ckhead, but he’s got Jamie fooled :)

I guess it depends on how much you want the room involved in the sound. With dynamics on guitar cabs, most just shove em up against the grill. Certain ribbons work great close mic’d (Royer R121 comes to mind). But most RCA derivitaves seem to work better away from the source. I had a phase where I didn’t close mic anything because I wanted everything to ‘breathe.’ Each individual track sounds awesome that way, but mixing was a nightmare of ‘everything louder than everything else.’

A dynamic cardioid up the nostril and a ribbon standing off should cover the eventualities then.

One of my cats was just thanked for her contribution to the project meeting I was attending.

If you haven't bought the parts, use the money to step up to one of the next level Epi Birds. Several options available with neck-thru as well.

I never said ALL CATS!!! Many claim their cats are awesome and I believe them, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary :)
Now my cat, Hank is horrible and I stand behind my statement as objective fact!!!

Boy my wife is gonna hate you guys. So I have been digging into the VP, love the white. Several videos to get a feel for the sound, rock solid reviews for the most part. This may be exactly what I am looking for.
Hey I work hard, make decent money...pretty sure I deserve this step up. Any gotchas or things I should look out for if I go on this hunt?

I can only leave you all with this. I'm going to mind melt with Bowie now.

What a great song! The singing is amazing and that snare drum!!! The last minute is epic. Station To Station might be my favorite Bowie record

That’s the way it’s done! Works amazingly well. Or pull a Queens of the Stoneage and use like 5 amps with 6 mics on each cab for a single take :)

A friend of mine named his cat Elf. Stands for Evil Little Fvck.

Mine, on the other hand, is literally the sweetest, most gentle cat I've ever known. She'll also wait for me outside the bathroom.

There are three T Birds I like ‘better’ than the VP. In no particular order.
1. Cataldo, exactly the way you want it.
This will cost 3x what you paid for a VP, minimum, but they’re also that good.
2. Used Gibson- replace stock pickups, with Thunderbuckers, Lollars or Lulls. Better than a VP, at least twice the price, probably more.
3. Mike Lull- full custom goodness. Probably 4-5x the price of a VP.

Come to think of it, there are some rad Grecos and Orville’s out there too.

Really, the only thing I dislike about em is the thick poly finish, though the white ones are the best looking, IMO, because that thick finish isn’t as noticeable. I’d rock one in a heartbeat if I were looking for another ‘Bird. There are also some who would say the 760 pickups are second only to the very earliest Gibson’s. And these are people who actually OWN early 60’s Gibsons, so they should know! Awesome basses. Would I trade my ‘02 Gibson with chrome Hipshot bridge & tuners and Lollar pickups for 3 VP’s? I would not :)

My Latifah does that too, often she's sitting in front window of the house looking for me when I come home from work, it's the sweetest thing. I love that Cat.
