Thunderbird Club

I've been able to read music from 7-ish. I don't understand-or see a need for-tablature.:wacky:

‘The teach’ is pretty set against tabs.

But just with the little I’ve done so far the actual music gives you an idea where (string) you should be... well it will once I recognise the little blighters...

Tabs seem weird to me too. I’ve long lost my ability to read music though. Thankful for the number system. Super easy once you get the hang of it. Also, the memorial service I’m playing today saw a lot of key changes at the last minute, but with the number system all you have change is what 1 is :)

Is that the 1 4 5 thing ?

Wow, I wasn't aware there were any rules for jazz.
In all seriosity, define jazz. Like rock, there are a bunch of genres. When it comes to big band-generally anything over 10 musicians-there has to be some rules so everyone plays together where they're s'posed to. So there are 'tricks' when writing an arrangement to get syncopation that isn't a free-for-all train wreck.

That's them. KEF might make some as well. They are effectively single point source and image like nothing else.
There were two casinos I worked on that each had about 100 of the i6aws in a huge series/parallel network (they are 8 ohm and that’s madness in a large commercial building).
I could hear how good they sounded even in that environment, so each time they got replaced during a reno, I grabbed some.

You know, as far as which side of the stage to be on.................
It'd just be cool to be back on one. I wouldn't give a rats @$$ which side i was on.

There was a point in my life (between band involvement) when playing with others was rare and I longed for being in a band again. I would scan the cl ads and get depressed. At a certain point (never planned or anticipated) I found friends I love regularly jamming with and a band that I was happy to play with and now I play in a few bands and couldn't be happier. Stay positive and don't lose faith - if you really want to perform live with a band - a good bass player is highly sought and that is your advantage. :bassist:

+1. Take heart, you have goods that are sought after. You're a bass player. You can chill, your gig is near.

If it isn't a free for all train wreck, how do you know it is jazz?

My parents were much more amused than they should have been when their teenage daughter had her hand slammed in the frontdoor after someone opened the backdoor -- is there a name for that phenomenon? -- and when they asked me which hand, I said my 'bowing hand'.
The name for the phenomenon is twins. And maybe having better things to do with brain capacity than being concerned about mundane and ephemeral things like right vs. left.

Yes, the snooty obnoxious kids from the posh schools would announce that someone -- a little man? -- was transcribing some Jimi Hendrix for them to play. They probably thought Hendrix wasn't a 'proper' musician, as he didn't write it all down first.
And then there are the truly obnoxious kids like my son who can sight read classical music and transpose to his Bb trumpet on the fly AND improvise like a jazz player. Because he is a jazz player. I hate people with talent! He got it from his mother. Must have, because he didn't get it from me.

Wow, I wasn't aware there were any rules for jazz.
There are "rules"- for keeping order- that are mostly unwritten... the rules are mostly just an agreement to seek an orderly expression of an idea among peers. This works when the people involved are somewhat accomplished on their axe, and have some agreed upon vision of their role within the group.
Mostly jazz is about interpretation, and that means improvisation. So in the 40s and 50s you got a lot of nimble, complicated melodies over the changes to "I Got Rhythm". Be-Bop. That melody was hidden within those chord changes, but you could derive a whole slew of new melodies from those I-VI-II-V chord changes also. And then soloists- even the whole rhythm section- would take it out of the box and run with it. It got absolutely crazy, and some ripping cool music came of it.
Lol, didn't mean to run out of the box...
Jazz is, in many different ways and with many different approaches, about interpretation of a musical idea. I guess.
