The foam rubber mounts on them were paggered and they were sitting (well slumped) down at gen pop height. May play about with them one of these days, then again the current setup sounds pretty good, so it's probably best to leave well alone.
This is Talkbass, so now you need to build another bass to use the pickups in.
 
There seems to be some variation with them then, as none of mine were in epoxy - As always with Gibson! :)

My spare is a naked frame but the coils under it are epoxied together, it may have been rewound.

Here's one that's in my '77, fully encased. The twin coils occupy about one third of the metal can, they're that rectangle in the center. The coil assembly would just about fit in a Jazz pickup cover. Dimensions are approximately 5/8" X 5/8" X 3".
