Thunderbird Club

That's really interesting, just goes to show we all hear things differently.
I thought they were a bit dark sounding.
the rig had a lot to do with it, I was using a PreSonus preamp into a Crown DC-1000 into two SWR boxes..
I also replaced the coupling caps (forget the exact value but I think they went from .047s to .1s) for Cornell Dubilier ceramics..

Thanks y'all, I'm not sure what I'm more excited about, the T5 or playing in a Hard Rock band again (especially at my age), the rest of the band is late 30's to early 40's)! Already ordered a 4" white/white Italia strap for it.
Ha!!!, age is of no importance, well, maybe to some.
Be equally excited about both and rock it hard!!!!!!!!!

There's more info I'll just pretend I understand any of.

I like!

the rig is very bright sounding. 6 SWR (EDEN) 10" drivers and two 2" drivers. The original capacitors were .047s (if I recall) and these will attenuate lower frequencies more than a capacitor twice it's side like a .1.
The result is, a much brighter setup right off the bat that requires the bass frequencies to be boosted at the amp level. With the mods to the bass the initial setup has more bass response which makes EQ at the amp less necessary....make sense?..

Indeed. Thanks!

I recall Mark @dukeorock posting some clips of his Birds at one point a few thousand pages back, one had the stock pickups and I thought it sounded great.

I thought the stock pickups in my 2014 sounded nice, I just like Thunderbuckers and Lollars a bit more for what I do. I really wish I hadn’t sold my 2014, but it is what it is. Still have the ‘02 w/ Lollars and the Cataldo. Also have a spare Lollar neck pickup that’s going to go somewhere :)
The stock TB+ pickups sound amazing, but I struggled to cut through the band mix.

A few, give or take a thousand. :)

It's also so dependent on your signal chain and playing style.

Absolutely!

They are a bit dark sounding. Which can be cool. For my roots music gigs, the Lollars really work for me. Big lows that punctuate the kick drum, with a nice ‘snap’ up top to get that Carol Kaye thing I love.

the 2013 buckers sound too bright (modern) for me, almost as if they are going through a preamp. although very meaty, way too in your face for my taste...the 76s are way more mellow (less 2k high mids) but retain the huge bottom end. with adequate EQ they can be made to sound piano like..
also, the hi mass Hipshot exacerbates this modern high sustain, bright mode so I went back to a three point..
I let the SVT do the work..
Have you heard a PRO IV? If so, how would you compare the PRO IV to the TB+ pups?

Saw this yesterday on a local musicians wanted forum -- unintentionally hilarious.

I guess i can understand it to a point. The oldies may be very qualified at it, but may not look the part?

Once you are over 27, you likely have responsibilities such as work, kids, a mortgage... Not looking for anyone that can't drop everything for an exposure gig. Probably change their minds when rent is due. No oldies unless you have a spare bedroom...
