Thunderbird Club

"but it's a dry heat"

It is, and I love it. I was excited that we were finally hitting 100 on Sunday (which dries the air out quite nicely), when a cold front hit and we had the crazy weather. The temp drop was cool (sic), but it got humid all over again. Still not too bad, but I am looking forward to actual hot weather (> 100F).

Very nice Vintage Pro ModuMan! Congratulations on your new Thunderbird, we hold these in pretty high regard around here, I suggest backing the bridge pick up off a little and using a pick, yummy goodness there!
If @PillO can give up the grass skirt and coconut shell bra we'll all enjoy your initiation, meantime club #768 is all yours! Welcome.

Thank you! I've been fooling around with some pickup volume/tone settings and favoring the neck pickup. Is that in the same position as the vintage single pickup models? Great sound, for sure.

Not sure about the skirt and coconut shell bra but I *do* have a vintage 60's Hawaiian shirt with collar loop and matching pocket so maybe I could just wear that?

I'm not sure about the pickup location, but I can say for sure that most of us favor the neck pickup. We all have lots of opinions about string choices, too.

The vintage shirt would be fine with a grass skirt, perhaps. We have to check with Link Removed about that, since he seems to be hoarding the coconuts.

All gorgeous, but that Greco is sorely tempting... except that we have multiple things that really need to be done to the house before they become major problems. The signed bird would pay for two of those. Assuming it actually goes for that.

Over your head in luau (sic) of a lampshade? Sure!

The autographed '64 is at a shop within a semi-reasonable walk from my house. It's too close to drive, anyway. Shipping wouldn't be a problem - cash flow to buy it might, but it sure looks like a good one. I would probably store the signed pickguard, put on a different one, and play the crap out of it. The NR is at the same shop. I may have to go down there for a visit. I can't entertain thoughts of buying either one and don't want a NR anyway. But, not buying doesn't mean not visiting when they are so close. The '64 in Japan sure is weird looking. What's up with the light colored stripe? I hope they aren't planning to ship it in a soft case, but who knows. The Greco is an object of desire and a whole lot more reasonably priced than a '60s Gibson. Somebody here needs that one.

You could have just stopped right there. String choices, bridges, knobs, tuners, etc. The one thing I *haven't* seen any discussion if (much less argument over) is wiring. I'm assuming that's because we all agree that cloth-covered 24ga solid copper wire is best for getting the proper tones, colors, and colours from a Thunderbird of whatever sort.

Opus is trying to hoard politically incorrect crayons and melons, but all it's gotten him so far is having to pee in public and a dragon in his (upside down) face. I think PillO is doing better than that.

The Greco is very cool but the off-kilter A tuner would drive me bonkers.

A voice keeps whispering in my ear that I can sell the Epi IV and then the Greco is even cheaper.
I'm not listening! I'm not listening!

One theory on why they are always hit is that Native Americans knew the land and settled their communities far from where they hit. Early towns/cities grew from those centers and spread outward, eventually out to the tornado alleys. (to do with wind patterns and terrain/topography) At the outskirts were trailer parks and car dealerships.

I'm up in Washington at the moment, might need to take a field trip and check them out. If I hadn't just purchased the BaCH I'd pick up another Greco.

This is where it is:
Home

Let me know if you are making a field trip and if the time works, I'll try to meet you there.

Wiring? Well the less there is the better I like it.

Ah, peace in our time. I reminded myself about what I want to turn the IV into once I'm happy with the V, which trumps (just barely, but it's enough for now) the desire to buy the Greco.
