It's at where the wing joins the thicker mid-section of the body. Are those shots of the top and bottom? Only one side?
I agree.... flat black is best on a natural finish. Since we're discussing pick guards, I have the original white gard' from my 2013 Gibby.

Do dig white in good lighting, but probably because I see them on dark colored birds... Anyway another vote or two will push me over the edge I s'pose!
That is the lower side where the wing joins the midsection anove the knobs. When flexing the bass, the crack opens.
Imho - this does not coexist with the "in excelent shape" part of the item description. I never would have called this "excelent shape", the crack should have been disclosed. However whome ever owned this previosly clearly had no idea what he/she was doing. Two of the three strings are wound backwards. I think I am going to contact seller to see how this can get some resolution.
Agreed, the bass is damaged. That could be a shipping issue, but in light of the string thing, it's suspect I suppose.

So played played a gig last night with 2 acoustic guitars. It got energetic by the end of the night, and I noticed a thing about the T-bird: it's not a funk machine. Not like a P-bass is... We did Play that Funky Music and Brick House, and there is a tendency for the attack to not be quite as "tight" with my T-bird- which is said to have more "modern tone" than the more classic versions.
Fine, honestly I was getting some sounds I was digging from it, and I think I'm more and old-school rocker anyway. And I do still have a nice old mutt of a P-bass. But it was good to have learned something. A fine way to start this new year- having learned something useful!

(Edited here) The tort one on there now, it seems like it doesn't sit flat on the bass... It's a little bubbly, if you get me, so I'm def going to replace it. New is OK too of course, but if you have (read: if anyone has) a recyclable one I'll give you something for it...

You post an interesting observation about the funk on a Thunderbird, as I have noticed the same. I'm sure I suck as a player, and figures into that.
Anyone care to expand on using the Bird for funk? EQ or playing style change needed or is the Bird not a funk machine?

I really tried to give the space, set up the stuttering anticipation, keep it dry and simple and get the note to punch through its target... Just didn't seem to have that powerful focus at the attack.
Yeah I'm curious to hear anyone else's mind on this- thanks for picking that up, mrb327...
