I will not go that far, but the Golden TBird will have all black hardware as soon as I can get my hands on some. Black Hipshot Supertone bridge and Black Hipshot Ultralite Tuners (or some original TBird black hardware, who knows?). The problem is that the importer here in Brazil does not feel the need to bring those, and all American stores that ship them to Brazil are charging absurd prices for shipping. Anyway, the time will come.

I'm considering getting a pair of these, and see that they are now offering them in both 8K and 9,2K versions...
Maybe you, or Carlo can answer this:
Which version would be best to buy - Should I either get a matching set (samme capacitance) or should I get one of each, and which one would should be used for the neck/bridge position?
Also, what would the difference between the 8K and 9,2K be soundwise?

I just got two of the 9.2k and am going to put one in the neck position of my Epiphone Classic Pro Thunderbird. I never got the concept of putting a higher value unit in the bridge position but it is a non issue for me as I never use the bridge pickup with most basses.

Are the higher value louder and grittier than the 8K versions? I could imagine using two 9,2K's would sound great then!
Im thinking of trying out flats on my TBird. Ive never tried flats before so I was hoping to get some opinions before going for it and who better than the people who have the same bass as me? Anyways I mostly looking for info on sound, I still want some top end and most flats seem too Mowtown-y, which I like but its not what I want on my TBird. From what Ive read Im thinking Daddario Chromes. Anybody tried them or have any other suggestions?

The 9.2k will be defiantly louder. In the 60s they put the larger value in the bridge position but frankly I don't get it. I do the reverse and I would put the higher value in the neck position.So in general you would put a higher value in the bridge position? Is that what they did back in the 60's models?

I'm an in no way an authority on bass strings but I do love the tone and feel of my D'addario Chrome flat wounds.
When I got the TBird (last monday) my plan was to put DR Black Beauties on it. Then I couldn't find any on the stores, they just had Neons, which wouldn't look good on the golden TBird. At home i found some Chromes on the back of a forgotten drawer, put them on and loved the tone. But that is me. Chromes are not THAT Motowny...
Fender flats have a nice crisp low mid that make a Jazz bass sing. I would think they will work great for a Bird

Cool... I think I may go the 2 x 9,2K route, as I do favor the bridge pickup, and usually turn the neck a bit down...
Any recommendation about pots and caps for those pickups?
I have chromes, live the tone.
Actually I had chromes on my biltbon and half rounds on my Pro... Till yesterday when I switched them. So now I have the half rounds on my bolt on and the chromes on my Pro. The Pro sounds much better and Bolty sounds a tad brighter but I still love it!
You must have misread. I said I liked Mowtowny but that I didn't want it.
Then you might like the chromes. I dont think they are motown-esk. Definatly can get brightness out of them and the "Smooth" factor goes way up.
after almost 20 pages, i'm caught up again. Woo, talkbass notes won't appear if i don't do anything in the thread for a few days i think. & it'll only re-appear if i like or post/quote/reply to anything

But update, i'll be getting back into my projects, been behind since getting new work & still in the recording process of my bands album. I'm also still browsing for bridge pickup options. I wanted a NYC seymour duncan 4 string saopbar, but been browsing MM pickups & trying to find humbucking jazz bass pickups online with no luck. Which got me thinking: Since my neck pickup is a Duncan Quarter pounder Pbass, & if i can't find a humbucking jazz for a bridge pickup, why not two Quarter pounder Jazz pickups, Cut two of the screw nibs off (one side on each pickup) & glue the covers together to make it "humbucker" & wire all to the killswitch.
Unless there's a better idea in which case PLEASE suggest & i'm just nuts

Amen to favoring the neck pickup. On most of my basses I dime the neck PU and the tone knob then (only if I have to) I dial in a touch of bridge PU to add clarity or bite. On a bird strung with nickel rounds I almost never need to use the bridge PU.
When I dial in this way on my 2013 EB 5 it's like the voice of God. I'd love to hear from some of the 2015 Tbird members who's basses came with the EB Sound package.
Check out the new EB pickups and control package. Not sure how you'd buy them unless maybe you went through a Gibson repair shop or found someone on eBay parting out their bass. I've used Jazz QP pickups back to back wired in series (didn't de-nub them) and they sounded good but not not as good as the EBs.after almost 20 pages, i'm caught up again. That is kinda what they did on the 7ender Blacktop P-Bass -
It has 2 of those double Jazz pickups for humbuckers, and sound nice and loud...

That is pretty much what a humbucker is, so it should werk perfectly.
