Love the chrome parts, too. I was going to swap out the original parts on mine, but I should spend a folly for two pickups (considering duty fees and shipping). I'm liking stock pickups, plus I don't think that chrome rings would look nice with black pups

There is a way to peel the black cover off of some pickups. Chrome covers and rings are easy to come by. Chrome is good!

View attachment 3530809 New to Talkbass, but not the club. In 2004, I finally decided to pull the trigger on a new Thunderbird while I still had the money. Back then, I wasn’t comfortable spending a lot of money online. I called every music store in metro Atlanta and no luck. No one had one. I began calling stores farther and farther away. After about a week, I was calling stores in Alabama and Tennessee. Late one Saturday morning, I called a store in Knoxville, TN and they said they had one on the wall. A few hours later I was driving back to the Atlanta area with this one.

That is what I call dedication!!!

Hey, give him a break. He "remembers" when you he had to walk up hill to the one room school house, then up hill home where he had to work on the farm for 12 hours before dinner and how you could buy a tank of gas, a Thunderbird, and a bass rig for less than $10...

You all have strange ways of measuring the weight of your Thunderbirds. First, we should dispel the notion of weight - we should care about mass. Second, the most accurate method of calculating mass must involve removing your Thunderbird from the Earth's gravitational field then calculating the change in angular momentum of the earth to find the change in mass. Seems like any other method wold be second best... or maybe I have been watching too much Nova on PBS.

Mass is for Catholics. That would be a religious discussion, which is Not Allowed. Thus, we stick with weight. Perhaps we should include 3D spatial coordinates relative to Earth’s center of mass, the better to fine tune the comparison of the weights.

Ha. My list of Thunderbird amplification to avoid is considerably longer than the list of the good stuff. The studio where we rehearse has an absolutely awful selection of bass gear (apart from the TE 215 cab). Maybe they take suggestions ...

There is a short scale in Seattle for a good price. As far as I know it is still out there for sale. We live to enable around here y'know. I will be standing by waiting for the PM. Us knuckle dragging types are not the right ones for a short scale 'Bird, but you are! You will be one of us!

FWIW, I went from a short scale EB-3 to my TBird. Not a totally seamless transition, but one I'll never regret. If you'd be interested, I get up to Winter Garden fairly often. I'll bring it, you try it. And, no, I'm not looking to sell it.

Ha, I'm pretty tiny (esp compared to Americans) and don't find them reachy at all.

But as a twin, your reach is shocking for your size.

Indeed. Kim has had a string of Canadian hits (with some minor success in US). He was the front man for Max Webster (a band that Billy Sheehan auditioned for near the end of their run). He left to form his own band.

Max Webster toured with Rush quite extensively. I don't know if they were the opener on the Hemispheres tour (probably were). The Moving pictures tour was my first real rock concert. FM (Nash the Slash's band) opened the show, then Max Webster, then Rush. I don't know that FM was on the whole tour; that may have been just the Toronto show.

Well you and your T-Bird have fun, bro, but I find them extremely reachy. I've owned two different Explorer type basses, and I've got no interest in working that hard anymore.

I'd rather have your EB-3 But while I thank you for the offer, like I said, with 10 basses, I'm not looking anymore, and if I do get another one, it's going to be a Mustang.

The reach is about the same unless you go non-reverse. But like I said, I'm full up on basses.
