Ribbon rabbit hole derail coming.

There's an Oktava ML-17 on Reverb for $250, including shipping from Russia. I'm not going to bite, because it's got issues, and I have other things to blow cash on. But, it's intriguing. It's a cardioid ribbon mic, which is my GAS kryptonite. It could be awful even working correctly, but it looks the part of a big pill ribbon mic, and it's mostly unidirectional. I'm resisting for now. Things like that have a habit of hanging around on Reverb for a long time. If it is still there next year, I might have to bite.

I used to have an Octava ribbon that was pretty cool. Can’t remember the model. My old studio partner sold it and some other mics to fund something else. Wishing he woulda checked with me first

Not helping with my irrational GAS here! I need another non-functional ribbon mic like I need another hole in the head. Even if it is mostly unidirectional, which would make it much more useful to me once it does work. Of course, this club is all about enabling. So, there's that.

I have had Oktava condensers, and they work well, especially for the price. You can pick up a used one for less than $100. An unobtainum Neumann would sound about the same as a cheapo Oktava in the Basement of Bad Ideas for the most part anyway.

I thought Frak was the brother that was into oil ;)

He is, but he's in Oklahoma. The King family had 12 boys and they are all spread out now.

This is pretty funny - "aqua-maids", "Lil' Indian" (could it have been made by the Indian Motorcycle Company?), Dick Clark's sexist quips and (of course) a white teen couple won the dance contest... 1968.

Keeping the tight in tightass. Where it belongs.

What the heck kinda dancing is that? They moved their feet.:wideyed::rolleyes:

LOL - not sure if I'm reading your response correctly, but if you're referencing the music you've created and posted here I'd disagree. I like it a lot, very edgy Prog in my mind. In fact, I think it would be cool if you and @dukeorock collaborated on a tune or two and put out something for the club here. He's kind of going in a similar direction but with different tools. A combined effort of two very talented musicians, each building on the others work would be interesting and a club exclusive!

I meant to say 'standard repertoire' but was unable to correct this as the TB gods have -- capriciously -- time limited the edit function.

Thank you for your kind words. I'm not sure Mark would appreciate being bracketed with a stone cold hack, but what's he gonna do about it?
