First - since when has need been a factor?
Second - We know that you do glamorous, not scary.
Third - @fasterpussycat scares @JJR58 full time and the rest of us are generally wary.
Hah. Expect a bunch of "likes" coming. Not GonePlaid level, but a lot.Catching up for the past 6 months....
Good air circulation is always important with tube amps...
I have a Model Two that still has original everything. Same as a One but with tremolo. It is not loud at all but sounds great. I do not do it justice with a guitar.
* Valve amps with a 'Fender-Marshall-Vox' tone stack, eg the Traynor YBA200, have passive cut only EQ controls.
Well, crap. George Chambers, the bass player, died on the 12th (7 days ago).
don’t think it makes much sense to implement an active Baxandall stack with tubes, it would require at least one triode per tone (bass, mids, treb) control, specially when considering the bw of a guitar amp doesn’t extend much past 5kHz...That's true of most old tube guitar/bass/PA amps, regardless of tone stack. Active EQ was a bit more common in quality stereos and hi fi.
I definitely wasn't arguing for it!don’t think it makes much sense to implement an active Baxandall stack with tubes, it would require at least one triode per tone (bass, mids, treb) control, specially when considering the bw of a guitar amp doesn’t extend much past 5kHz...
I don't know what's more stylin', the bass or that suit.Well, crap. George Chambers, the bass player, died on the 12th (7 days ago).
Right, but if you stick to the published specs, you can get away with worse practices. Los of old radios, TVs, amps, and other gear soldiered on with crap airflow, tubes bunched up, etc.- but they didn't push the power specs at all. Even as a teen dissecting gear to understand it better, I wondered sometimes what the electronics designers were thinking (not realizing that it could have been anyone else in the chain that pushed those tubes close together in a nearly sealed-back cabinet).
Here's a *killer* version of "Time Has Come Today". Unfortunately, being a 1969 TV recording, you can't hear George play the THUNDERBIRD. ARGH! Still worth it. So much talent on that stage. They have a great drummer, and then the cat with the cowbell does more with it than many pro drummers do with a full kit.
