I always find a P a very present bass.Is it just me, or is the P the only one that just fades into the background? All the others are present without being overwhelming. But the P? You really have to listen for it.

1-TBird, 2-EB-2, 3/4-even, last-P.The T-bird was more pleasing in the mix than the others. It had less high-end definition/clank but plenty of low-end phatness. The other basses sounded less rich/flatter.
I really don't understand why she wouldn't just shove the foam UNDER THE STRINGS. Why fiddle with tape? Plus, by putting the foam under the strings, it is easier to give certain strings more or less mute on the fly.
I listened to the whole thing hoping it would get better. Nope.oh man - the opening music sounded insipid but when he opened his mouth I hit pause as fast as I could

I agree with "the hook" I guess, but really dig Carol Kaye too.She found a way she liked. Jamerson put it under.

As she is sometimes described, the best bassist you never heard of-at least back in the 60s-70s. I had no idea it was studio cats playing behind(insert artist/group here). Interesting story: a friend of mine bought her then husband lessons with Carol Kaye. He wanted to do it his way, not Carol's. She sent him away.I agree with "the hook" I guess, but really dig Carol Kaye too.![]()

Trust me. Enjoyment wasn't part of the experience. I especially "liked" the dee deet-da-deet being played on a J.I think my made-up word (derived from masochist) describes that condition(should be sonichist I guess...) definition: one who forces themselves to listen to awful music for morbid enjoyment.

Cobalt Flats might sound great on that bass. Another good choice for bold pickups would be DR Black Beauty Heavy Taper Wounds. Just put some on my 2015 TBird and it sounds much better than the Cobalt flats I had on it. the BBs would also look killer on that black LP.Here are a few Pic's. Need to do a good cleanup and get it set up. New Strings will be in order. Any Suggestions? Been thinking of Cobalt flats. View attachment 3580429 View attachment 3580430 View attachment 3580431
Not just you. I found the P bass to be the least desirable sound of the bunch (I would have normally had it at the top of the list, but not in this shootout). I'd say it was a tie between the TBird and the Stag for best and hands down the P for worst. Is it just me, or is the P the only one that just fades into the background? All the others are present without being overwhelming. But the P? You really have to listen for it.
I don't listen to bad music for my own morbid enjoyment. I do it to make everyone else as miserable as me.I think my made-up word (derived from masochist) describes that condition(should be sonichist I guess...) definition: one who forces themselves to listen to awful music for morbid enjoyment.

And then he throws in his 'signature' side-to-side shuffle.

Pick a key, any key... I think listening to that made me tone deaf...
they certainly are tone deaf - I had to wash my ears out with bleach after hearing that

I love this thread. Even though my birdcage is empty at the moment, I come in here daily or so, just to read and see pics. This thread moves so fast sometimes, it's almost like a chat room ! Tbird owners are one flock of passionnate musicians.
Agreed! You know the song must be associated with some sort of evil cult when you see this.
Because she was a converted guitarist. As she is sometimes described, the best bassist you never heard of-at least back in the 60s-70s. I'd have problems 'cos I rarely use a plectrum, she always does.
