Thunderbird Club

So speaking of Hipshot, I want to put an Extender on my 2013 Epi CP. I think what I have on there are Ghotos, and a GB7 Hipshot looks like it replaces that model.
Any experts on which model has which tuners? Here's what's on the 'Bird...View attachment 3632391 View attachment 3632392
My Hamer has Schallers, and the only difference between the two seems to be where the screw is that holds them to the headstock.

The Hamer has an Extender, an M4 model, it even has the Schaller "S" logo on it.

Just thought I'd run this by the panel. Thanks...
Yep. GB7 as I recall. I think that's what's on the 2001. Looks like the ones that used to have a model designation are now just called Ultralight. One of those is on the 2013 EB. I want to put one on the Flamingo, with mini-clovers, of course.

Hey thunderbird club,

thought ill post my questions here maybe, dont know how to delete my old post.
anyway, got myself an Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro and I really like it, the tone and the looks and how it plays. (Also own an Epi Thunderbrid Goth)
Problem is, I play C standard at our current project, and the intonation with the .110 Labella 760m string was impossible(I wanted to try them out and they have high tension so i figured would be good for drop tunings). Tuner always said 12th fret was almost C# not even a C. (Saddle for this string was maxed out to the back, aswell for the F String, which was also a tiny bit sharp)
So I went to the music store to let them take a look at it and they said i will need another bridge if i want to use these strings.
For now i just put on an old roundwound .110 Earnie Ball Power Slinky and this is really floppy but it's intonated (Saddle still maxed out to the back).
I also tried EADG and the E was still sharp with the Labellas. Even like .105 gauge Daddario tuned to E need to be maxed out to the back so it wont be sharp :(

So I've got 2 questions:
1:
If I modify my the nut of my Bass, to put in Like .130 .100 .080 .060 strings or something, will I be able to intonate it with this bridge, or will thicker gauges at higher tension, tend to be even more problematic in camparison to the Labella 760m with starts at 110 but has thicker cores that usual Roundwounds? (would prefer not to file the nut)
2:
And currently there are no 2 Point bridges from hipshot available but if i manage to get one somewhere, will the intonation problem be fixed?? and which one is the correc one for my bass?
I also read about the 2 point badbrid bridge, for the old gibsons, but I think the guy who builds them posted that the Epi Vintage pro does not need it, so i guess that its almost the same as the vintage pro stock bridge.

I hope someone who has experienced problems like this before me can safe me time and nerves. I would really appreciate it. Thinking about it much more that in should. Need to get my studies done >.<

Thx for reading and Peace
I think you have two issues. The bridge is one issue. The nut is a separate one. Modifying the nut will help with all kinds of things, but I doubt it will solve the intonation issue. It's worth trying, but I don't believe it will be the solution. As far as the bridge, I don't know a solution to that if you cannot get it to intonate.

That's a great looking bass guitar!
The grain comes out more in the pic than in reality but, it's still pretty cool. I would love to ha e the nikki sixx spectorbird from the dr. Feelgood video. Those basses had the bridge and neck in the same position as gibson birds. That was before gibson started suing everyone.

You might need to get help from an experienced luthier/builder there, get your bridge moved a bit further back to facilitate intonation?

I'm a firm believer in a solution for every problem...

It seems odd that with the EB Power Slinky .110 the bass intonates and with the LaBella of the same gauge is used it doesn't. I'd fix the nut issue and suggest taking it to a good luthier to see if it's even feasible to do this with this specific bass.

I have an EB3 with a hipshot bridge. I am using DR DDTs strings and have it tuned BEAD with no intonation problems. I think your intonation difficulties are in using strings inappropriate to your desires.

Just outta curiosity, can ya buy BEAD sets? Or d'ya hafta get 5 string sets and be a G string collector?
