Thunderbird Club

Many places provide enough room for however many people are in the group. Just not enough for the instruments, mics, amps, PA,etc.:help:

yeah, we can fit 1 accordion, assorted tambourines, maracas & shakers. I have a kazoo and a washboard tie that I have used on different occasions. A few of us are trying to get up to speed in ukuleles - just to break up the all accordion all show attack... and I just received in the mail a Suzuki harmonica. No idea how to use it yet.
But I’ll get there - I hope.

Cool! That’s a great thing to do.:D

thank you. We had an old gent in the front row “turn it down” “turn it down”.
We did twice, but the room is (or seems) 20 metres long, they need to hear as well.

First time I’ve been told to turn Carols down lol

Ive really been liking a spector classic x bird that I picked up recently. Pretty heavy and the neck/bridge are shifted a bit far towards the headstock but, Im learning to rest the body over my right thigh to compensate. I only play birds with a pick and found for this, I prefer nickle wounds strings, which I never use finger style. I plan to replace the tone pump junior preamp with a Creative Audio Redeemer circuit to see what happens. Ive got a never opened box of emg tbhz pickups that Id love to try but, the pickup routs would have to be made alittle larger. Pretty cool bird for the money though. Not as nice as an old gibson or dingwall d-bird but, Im not so worried about beating it up.

Last night’s gig at the Landing Pub was a blast!

We had to wait until the hockey game was over, and a lot of the high school fundraiser crowd left. I thought it was gonna be a slow night, but people started rolling in and the party started.

You Sexy Thing and Faith went over really well, and somehow when we played Soul Man there were mostly just dudes on the dance floor. Weird, but kinda cool to see.

The ladies made a comeback though, and at one point a dancer tumbled over the monitor and and into my mic stand. You know it’s a good time when that stuff starts happening!

The VP through the PF50T/210AVs was a tone monster.

Nice quilt!

There's a few of us Spector X body players in the club. My Rex5 Pro was what turned me onto Thunderbirds. Your right, the Spector does hang different from the Gibby/Eppi offerings. I normally play my Thunderbirds between the neck pup and the neck, but with the Spector strapped on, my right hand just naturally falls between the two pickups.

I've never been a big fan of the tone pump jr., but I really really like the older nontrim tone pump on my Spector Euro and the BDQ in my Rex5. Never tried the Creative Audio Redeemer. You might want to pop into the Spector club and ask if anyone has a trim or nontrim tone pump they'd like to unload. I got one there for free. One thing the Spector clan is known for is upgrading stock preamps for the Hazlab option, so lots of available tone pumps and BDQ preamps on hand there.

I had the same bass for a while. I replaced all of the electronics with EMG dual reverse P soapbars and the HAZ clone that a member of the forum was creating at the time. Made a HUGE difference!! The body was thicker than I would prefer and the finish felt a bit like plastic, but it played and sounded great! I only sold mine because I needed to cover another large gear purchase (of course) and I knew I would be able to buy another down the road.

Did you suggest he turn down his hearing aids?:smug: (or move?)
BTW, good luck w/ the harmonica. As an ex saxist-everything exhaling-I could never get the hang of harmonica being played exhale and inhale. Or the concept of bagpipes*notes being played totally outta time with puffing up the bag.

*not that I want to

Hey thunderbird club,

thought ill post my questions here maybe, dont know how to delete my old post.
anyway, got myself an Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage Pro and I really like it, the tone and the looks and how it plays. (Also own an Epi Thunderbrid Goth)
Problem is, I play C standard at our current project, and the intonation with the .110 Labella 760m string was impossible(I wanted to try them out and they have high tension so i figured would be good for drop tunings). Tuner always said 12th fret was almost C# not even a C. (Saddle for this string was maxed out to the back, aswell for the F String, which was also a tiny bit sharp)
So I went to the music store to let them take a look at it and they said i will need another bridge if i want to use these strings.
For now i just put on an old roundwound .110 Earnie Ball Power Slinky and this is really floppy but it's intonated (Saddle still maxed out to the back).
I also tried EADG and the E was still sharp with the Labellas. Even like .105 gauge Daddario tuned to E need to be maxed out to the back so it wont be sharp :(

So I've got 2 questions:
1:
If I modify my the nut of my Bass, to put in Like .130 .100 .080 .060 strings or something, will I be able to intonate it with this bridge, or will thicker gauges at higher tension, tend to be even more problematic in camparison to the Labella 760m with starts at 110 but has thicker cores that usual Roundwounds? (would prefer not to file the nut)
2:
And currently there are no 2 Point bridges from hipshot available but if i manage to get one somewhere, will the intonation problem be fixed?? and which one is the correc one for my bass?
I also read about the 2 point badbrid bridge, for the old gibsons, but I think the guy who builds them posted that the Epi Vintage pro does not need it, so i guess that its almost the same as the vintage pro stock bridge.

I hope someone who has experienced problems like this before me can safe me time and nerves. I would really appreciate it. Thinking about it much more that in should. Need to get my studies done >.<

Thx for reading and Peace

I like the 2-pc bridge as a concept, after seeing it on stuff like Alembic, Jaydee and Warwick, and some Gibson and Epi models. It's one of the things I'm shallow about I guess.
I'm of the same mind.
IMHO a two piece hard tail bridge (or a string through body with a standard bridge) is a superior design to any single piece bridge with the strings anchored on the bridge. It's all about down force, shear loading and basic engineering. That said, I doubt anyone in the audience could ever hear the difference between a hard tail two piece bridge and a properly functioning POS Fender bent plate bridge. So it really comes down to a user preference and academic discussion. Given a choice, as a user I'll take a two piece every time.

That HAZ preamp is a thing of beauty on a Spector. Might be interesting on a TBird as well if one should desire an active bird.

As others have said, you want the Supertone replacement for the Gibson 3point. Another alternative is the Babicz that Gibson used from ‘15 - ‘17. They are also an easy install. I think they look more traditional; they attach at the three points. Both are good choices for the Epi bolt-ons and the Classic Pro.
The downside of a Babicz is cost. They are expensive. Oh, and windmills. They have some sharp points. Other than that, they look far better than a Hipshot to my eyes. And, as a shallow person, that's all it takes to overcome any drawbacks. Intonation with a Babicz is straight forward, as is adjusting the string height.
