Thunderbird Club

Ok fellow T-birders, I have a question. I am considering putting a Hipshot Supertone bridge on my Epi T-bird Classic Pro. I would order the 3 point version of it, right? I ask because they sell a 2 point version as well. Also, anyone here who installed the Supertone on their Epi's have any issue with the installation? Is it really just remove 3 bolts, remove old bridge and screw on the Supertone with just TWO replacement bolts? Anyone have any problems with the install, i.e. needing shims, etc? Thanks for any advice.
I know this has already been answered, but there's no way to fit the 2-point on your Thunderbird. The bolt holes wouldn't line up and it's backwards; no way to intonate it. I wish they made the 3-point with that rounded front cut straight like the 2-point. I think it would look a lot better, even with the exposed third bolt hole.

Czech markings...uglier but much more rugged and lower maintenance than the F-4...much cheaper also...in a dogfight with equally trained pilots it would be more than a handful for the Phantom...

True, and our guys really had to brush up on their tactics (this lead to the Top Gun school) to keep up, that and adding a gun pod like this one

totally, you're talking about a beast that took off with minimum fuel and had to be fueled in the air because it would leak fuel on the ground due to the loose skin that would tighten up when it started heating up (friction) in flight....pretty gnarly airplane....it was also good for over mach 3...
That sounds like a fireball waiting to happen:eek:

I thought you said it was tight(that's me in the corner, next to my JBL EON ONE PA)

we did our first Carols yesterday. We had the space between the Christmas tree and the TV in the Nursing Home activity room. It went off ok.

but I understand about having no space.

2 more to go, Wednesday Vinnies lunch and on Saturday 10:30-11:30am at another Nursing Home.

Many places provide enough room for however many people are in the group. Just not enough for the instruments, mics, amps, PA,etc.:help:

This makes me think of that episode of “Scrubs” where Polyphonic Spree crammed themselves into a hospital room.
YT it if you don’t know what I’m talking about. (As is common.)

not understanding (my bad) your comments...you mean omit the middle screw lug altogether on the original Gibson three point? just adjust the action with the two screws without the tilt of the third?

We're talking about the Hipshot bridges. The 3-point is still just two bolts. It covers the third bolt hole.

Not really... The JP-7 fuel that was developed for the Blackbird's engines to operate at CLASSIFIED, is actually extremely non-flammable at ground level, and has little/no vapor pressure there, either. And it's the fuel/air mixture that ignites; not the fuel. A common trick the SR-71 maintenance guys used to do, was drop a lighted match in the fuel puddled in the plane's catch pan. It would always go out... Blackbirds were extremely hard to start because of that... Mtn. Home AFB in Idaho was a diversion base for the 'Birds that flew out of Beale AFB, near Yuba City, Ca. I used to see them there, fairly frequently. I used to see them a lot when I was stationed in the UK, too. When we deployed somewhere out of RAF Mildenhall, we used to taxi right by their Maintenance hangars. And, when we played war games there, I sometimes had the opportunity to hang out with those guys. A very, very impressive plane...
And, yeah, the MiG was a better dogfighter - in the classic sense - than the F-4. That's what it was built for; the F-4 was not. As somebody else has pointed out; F-4's didn't even have an internal gun - until the F-4E model, which was almost too late for Vietnam. The gun pod on that F-4C in the picture, was a desperate attempt to do something to remedy the problem... To tell the truth - the US never really built a "dogfight-with guns, air superiority fighter" - until
f-15-eagle_001.jpg this one. All the others, from WWII forward (with the exception of the Navy's F4F thru F8F Grummans, and the F4U Corsair), were intended for something else - they just happened to be fairly good for that, too. Even the F-104 Starfighter, although intended as a high altitude interceptor, was a more agile fighter plane than the F-4; much more agile - and it had a gun, too...

As others have said, you want the Supertone replacement for the Gibson 3point. Another alternative is the Babicz that Gibson used from ‘15 - ‘17. They are also an easy install. I think they look more traditional; they attach at the three points. Both are good choices for the Epi bolt-ons and the Classic Pro.

Cool! That’s a great thing to do.:D

It just bolts down with the back two inserts. The front one is covered and the adjustments are done at the saddles.

Depending on neck angle, some basses may require a shim under the bridge. Most don’t.

totally agree..we’re talking different generation jets...interestingly, in simulations, the 21 always outdoes the 104 (same generation) which as you say was not intended as a fighter...the 21 can out turn it all day long until you put glider wings on it (among other things) and designate it U-2..

So speaking of Hipshot, I want to put an Extender on my 2013 Epi CP. I think what I have on there are Ghotos, and a GB7 Hipshot looks like it replaces that model.
Any experts on which model has which tuners? Here's what's on the 'Bird...

My Hamer has Schallers, and the only difference between the two seems to be where the screw is that holds them to the headstock.

The Hamer has an Extender, an M4 model, it even has the Schaller "S" logo on it.

Just thought I'd run this by the panel. Thanks...

My AF ROTC instructor had been with AF Intel. He said we would set a new speed record with the SR71, wait for the Soviets to come up with a faster plane and put into production, ground the Blackbird to allegedly find ways to make it faster (in reality it was faster and we didn’t know its limits!), set a new speed record, repeat. This kept the Soviets spending stupid amounts of money in an arms race whose rules we had rigged.
