I found it amusing. He was really friendly in a passive aggressive way. Dude just spends more time reading about the gear choices of the TB hive mind than he does trying to make impactful music. His band was very basic Americana and he tried to make the whole thing about his bass licks, while completely ignoring the pocket.

Well we all check out people's gear constantly, but then most of us don't go on and on about it to anyone unlucky enough to be in the vicinity*. TBH, if I say anything at all about gear (usually to The Mod™), it will be about guitars. Guitarists will ask about my pedals, and they get no more than 'tuner, dirt, flanger, preamp' -- but it's almost impossible to explain the function of the H/LPF to them in a succinct manner, particularly as when it's working properly it's not really audible. 'You're a bass player and you're cutting the bass. Uhhhhh.'

*Thunderbird Club excepted obviously.

Yeah, the now ex drummer, husband of the now ex singer (and what a shower of Christmas-New Year weirdness that was) was stunned by the Fenderbird and NR41. He had never as much as seen a Thunderbird in a picture before, as far as I could make out. Then he was telling someone about how well I 'slap' a bass ... when I've never slapped a bass in my life.
