Thunderbird Club

They are what they are. $15 strings mass produced a gazillion at a time. I do like how they feel compared to some other rounds. They have a period in their short life where they sound pretty good. I have them on an Ibby with the “tone circuit” where they work well. I haven’t played that bass in awhile though and it may be leaving me, nice neck and all.
To me, for cheap strings, I am much happier with plain old nickel D'Addarios.

I give them a pass on the Sqwar love. If you were looking for a 7ender (and many are), the Sqwar is probably a much better value.
Not really, IMO. At least with what they’re putting out now. The last good one was the James Johnston sig Jazz which is long out of production. They could have put a 7ender decal on it and no one would have known the difference. And I’m not a Jazz guy. The MIM 7enders are generally very good basses and the better value. The quality of Squiers, mostly fretwork, and pickups, pales in comparison to what Epi does. For whatever reason, the Epi QC is much better. YMMV. I visit a lot of stores when traveling and play a lot of basses....

FWIW, my "backup"(Squire Vintage Modified Jaguar SS) is fine, esp. for a whopping $149 new. It's surely not a 67 THUNDERBIRD NR, but if something happened to it I'd prolly get over it.

Had no idea Wishbone Ash was touring the U.S., last week they were in Tampa, of course I'm going there Tuesday. Next week in Las Vegas (a 1 hour drive from our second home), and of course I'll be in Sarasota! Damn
If Martin isn’t with ‘em, it’s not “my” Wishbone. Powell is great and all, but Martin is Wishbone. I’m crankin’ Four as we speak...

Yeah, I'm not trying out any 7enders or Sqwars. They aren't interesting to me. I have tried some great Ibanez and Yamaha FSOs

I know, and no offense intended Plaid. I know you think highly of yours. They’re decent basses for the price. Very cool looking with the matching headstock, jag shape and all. Nice and light. Too bad they discontinued them. I must have played a dozen of them when I wanted an inexpensive SS to travel around with. Never played one that didn’t need a fret level, crown, and fret end work. And a PUP swap. JMO.

Yeah, I got it as something that's "OK" w/o putting any serious effort or $ into it. I'm using it tonight on a 1 hour dinner music gig where space is minimal-and so is the audience's ability to hear.;)

Nothing wrong with a 7ender P. They’re great. But yeah, particularly Yamaha, if you want a nice, well built all around bass. $500 - $700 gets a lot of instrument. Some upper SBMMs are also very good; but for not much more you can get a EBMM used and a much better bass. Epis are the value leader.

I got the Jag SS for my daughter when she started playing bass in Elementary school. I haven’t even replaced the strings!
Now it mostly gets taken along as a backup (Sometimes stays in the truck), but it plays and sounds good. The fretwork is decent and the P pickup is definitely useable.

A few months ago, and however many thousands of pages ago, @dukeorock and @fasterpussycat were going on about effects and what not. The discussion was way over my head. Duke posted pics of a bunch of wires connected to who knows what. I wanted to understand, so I used a coupon and bought a Zoom b1x Four for 80 bucks. I finally took it out of the box a few weeks ago and started playing around with the pre-installed effects and amp sims.

Today I dusted off a laptop that we hadn’t used in forever, went through the Microsh*t update wait, and connected it up to learn how to add patches. It was actually pretty intuitive. I added some more amp sims and effects, the recipes for which are on a TB thread and posted by a member @Crystalman85. He does good work and shares it all. It’s a pretty cool little box and I learned a bunch of terms for effects and sound while going through the exercise. I had a fun afternoon blasting tunes and figuring some of this stuff out.

I would also contend that a lot of devices which are called 'effects' are not really effects at all, and should fall into the category of 'utilities'. My tuner, high pass filter and (amp replacement) preamp/DI are utilities. My RAT and flanger are effects.

Those are cool. I almost bought one years ago, but I found a discounted Behringer Bass V-Amp Pro like below. Many roll their eyes but it's pretty useful and versatile. It's not heavy duty, but does have a lot of great features and effects. Has some killer guitar sims which I use at home some. I used it as a pre amp and DI for some months. Some would laugh, but I found it pretty useful and would not hesitate to use it again. Does it sound as good as a Sansamp VT? No, but it does a lot more. Like the Zoom, there is a lot of tone shaping in that box.

I'd like to hear more about your use of a flanger pedal. I will be receiving one tomorrow for what I think will be a really cool effect on a part of one of the songs. I got it from Amazon so I can send it back risk-free if it's not what I'm looking for. It's an MXR Micro Flanger. Goes with the color scheme.
