Pi has also gone metric. 3.14159... is way too much for metrisexuals[pi] to remember, so under the Billyboingers numeric system, pi became 1. Unfortunately, that caused problems up and down the number line, so the Billyboingers method was immediately replaced with the Jadedstrumpet method where e was 1, which came with its own issues. Thus a many, varied, ever-changing, and eternal[1] series of numbering methods was born.

Meanwhile, us "flatliners" (as the metrisexuals like to call us) are stuck here in the stone ages with e and pi and such full of (among other things) irrational numbers, happily counting away without having to name a new system before we've even figured out what the old one was based on.

Bonus question: Provide the equation describing a THUNDERBIRD.

[1] Not unlike the Dark Arts.[2]
[2] As related by Professor Severus Snape
[3.14] Those who find the metric system too sexy for its body[e]
[e] Not to be confused with metrosexuals
e and pi are transcendental numbers...their only 'irrationality' stemming from the fact that they are tied in to a base 10 numbering system.....in retrospect, we would have been further ahead if instead of basing our numbering system on 10 (the number of fingers we have) we would have based it on 2 (the number of hands we have)....but of course that would have been way too cumbersome at the time..

The USA has converted several times.
I grew up on the old methods. Being a multi-interest geek (with special interest in radio, electronics, and audio), I learned metric as well. The best part (ha ha) is owning two sets of tools- one SAE & etc., and one metric.
It could be worse. You could have as set of Whitworth as well.

It will be weird if we dump metric money (uk) £ s d
£1 = 20 shillings
1 shilling = 12 pennies
Pennies being d
Then there's crowns, half crowns, tanners, 6d, thrupenny bit 3d
1d 1/2d farthing 1/4d
Working in tens, decimal, currency is sure easier,

You forgot guineas, sovereigns and groats.

If it happens it will be hilarious -- the final stage of the headlong descent into utter irrelevance.

Come on, how many hands am I holding up?
Um, one, ... um ...
Come on, Johnny, you can do it!
One, um, TEN!
