Thunderbird Club

It’s the one in my Avatar pic (that I’ve used since joining in 2014 and am too lazy to change). The guard has a few cracks. It’s a Sears Silvertone 1490 that I got for Christmas when I was in the 6th grade. Quit piano lessons soon thereafter. Started garage bands then and there. Learned Secret Agent Man, Albatross, Black Magic Woman and Wipeout. We were headed for stardom.

I wish it was a Hagstrom. I’ve always wanted one. It’s a Japanese blend of various looks with a two saddle bridge that is a total PITA. That’s why it pretty much lives in the cardboard case. It saw a lot of action before I got a Mustang (which I later sold of course). First amp was a Sears Silvertone that couldn’t wake up someone sleeping in the next room. Then I got a Bassman 50 with a beat 2 x 12 cab that wasn’t much louder (early 60’s blackface which I traded after a couple of years of course). Who knew.

@GBassNorth

If they are a PITA you are doing all wrong. Surely they would be a pain in the front bottom, not the back bottom?

I was going to point out exactly the same.

The banana antennas help transmit thoughts; they aren't just for show.

[Serious:] Can't say it has ever been an issue, but then I don't tend to wear belts.

LOL - We might be saying the same thing. If the bass hangs low enough I suppose it could be a pain in the fanny for some.

Schaller (especially the S lock model) strap locks are relatively high profile. If you have a strap pin located on the neck plate (or the back of the neck block up near the heel on neck through basses) you will run the risk of digging the strap lock knob (located on the strap) into your gut if you’re an active player. Not a huge issue if you don’t move around a lot but kinda falls into the same category of avoiding windmills if you have a Babicz bridge.

Other than that one issue, my preference on most basses is the Schaller. On an LP bass like Veronica’s, where the strap pin is on the upper horn I’d absolutely use a Schaller.

You do know 'fanny' means front bottom around these parts (fnarr fnarr)? Of course you do.

Since I haven't been paying attention to the world of strap locks any time recently, what's everyone's fave and why?
Pics are encouraged. It's for my Les Paul Oversize.

I've been using the simple but efficient Schaller's since about 1980. Nuthin' fancy and never a problem. Work every time.

But then, with 24 years of sobriety, what would I do with the beers? ;)

I'm sure someone in TBC is wondering what to do with all those washers they've collected. "Buy another bass sounds good, but I'd have top sell the house *and* become a meth maven to afford that many basses."

Hey, I'll take a half dozen.

Washers. Not beers. Not meths. Washers. Or spare basses. Both.

...goes without saying.;)

There's an older couple in my wife's family named Dong and Fanny (they're Chinese).
LOL - now that right there is funny!:roflmao:

True Story - in the global corporate world it's not uncommon for some Asian citizens to select a westernized name to use at the office. One of my Chinese work mates in Beijing selected the name Jelly, she thought it sounded nice and sweet. So her full name at work became Jelly Ho.

Global video conference calls became amusing when doing introductions. At one point I had Jelly Ho, Bebot, Dodo, Taco, Ahs-hit (without the hyphen, blame TB) and Shoewee on line. I became an expert at keeping a straight face and remaining professional.

That's not to pick on Asia, the good ole USA has its share of odd names as well.
