Thunderbird Club

Hope you are better soon.

Funny because before learning it was The Walker Brothers, that's what I also assumed. As it went then, the similarity in names (neither were actual brothers) was probably deliberate and the similarity in the sound of the song went with it - Scott Walker had a beautiful baritone voice which provided a sonic link. He passed away about a year ago and after hearing about it on the news lead me to discover one of my favorite artists.

:woot:Wait a minute, you mean people can actually sing without auto tune!;)
He did have a wonderful creamy smooth voice.

Here at ground zero in the US, we are the toxic avengers. I'm still traveling, and nobody has told me not to show up. Yet. I'm sure it's coming. A client in Austin, Texas was kinda funny about it. What's worse, it's seasonal allergy season starting up, so about half of us will be sneezing anyway. It is what it is.

On the good side of things, there's just no traffic, relative, and getting through TSA was more or less a breeze this morning. Yeah, it's a little selfish, but I'm liking the lack of blobby dumptys clogging up the roads and everywhere else.

I switched the T5 to E-C yesterday using Sunbeam lights and got an hour or so in. I love these stings and have used them on most of my basses over the years. Traditionally, I have used a DR Lowrider B string, as I never cared for the Sunbeam B, of course not an issue E-C.

On the T5, they are a delight, low tension (but not too low for Hard Rock due to the increased tension of the 35" scale?). For those who don't know, Sunbeams have a mid-forward tone, solid lows, and muted highs ( low zing), perfect for my personal tonal goals.

My T5 relief was .011, not perfect for me but close enough not to mess with. The lower tension Sunbeams allowed the neck to relax close to the perfect for me .006 range, and only 3 strings needed intonation. The enhanced mids will make my bandmates happy, deep lows don't work as well for the genre, or cut through a Les Paul/Marshall combination (even with the deep switch off). This allows me to keep the volume down and still be prominent in the mix.

E-C does require some re-learning, quick thinking and a new approach, but this change is definitely going to keep the T5 in the gig rotation.

Next up: Sunbeams and Embassies.

Hope you have a b-bag close... :)

No barfing on that one. In my eye, that's not traditional tort, it looks ok on that bass.

This is what I consider traditional tort as it relates to electric guitars...

BTW - I do have traditional tort on one of my Gibbys, but it's a Fender Shaped Gibby so it looks at home on it...

The box set that includes Scott 1-4 and 'Til The Band Comes In (5 Classic Albums) is highly recommended if you liked that song. (on Scott 3) If you are a courageous listener - his later avaunt guard work (Tilt, Drift, Bish Bosh) is worth investigating.

Since I haven't been paying attention to the world of strap locks any time recently, what's everyone's fave and why?
Pics are encouraged. It's for my Les Paul Oversize.

I'll get some pics when I get home, but I've been using LOXX since I got my Thunderbird in 2013 and they're really great. Very secure and the lowest profile I could find. The button on the strap end is pretty small and when on the bass it sits almost as close as if you'd just put the strap end over a standard strap pin. Only downside is that the LOXX strap pin on the bass is useless without their button.

Stop the senseless killing of tortoises for their shells! :roflmao:  :roflmao:
#NoTort

Silly Tim! Here's the statement from RIMA (Responsible Instrument Manufacturers Association) in direct response to your post:

RIMA members never condone or participate in the senseless killing of tortoises for their shells. RIMA members use only ethically collected, locally sourced, sustainable materials. For tort, this means collection only of shells shed by tortoises during molting seasons.
While RIMA generally condemns the taking of lives, it does allow for the harvesting of tortoise-murdering ecoterrorists for their bones, which make fantastic nut material.

I should note that a recent addendum to the RIMA bylaws allow bone harvesting from those who criticize RIMA, so be carefu what you post!
