Where are people on picks (with their THUNDERBIRDS)? Here is where I am and am wondering if there are further picking experiments I need to do.

Perhaps part of the difficulty I had with picks was that I was trying to use 1.0mm picks. I got a few to try out from my local L&M - a couple of 0.45mm and 0.5mm. Being thinner, they are easier to grip; a little pressure and they flex and fit just right. They also snap nicely over the strings. They make Ace of Spades pretty easy to play.

What thicknesses are others using, and what do you like/dislike about that thickness vs. thicker/thinner?
I've used Med Fender's the last few years. But I'm weird--I turn the pick pointy side toward my hand and actually pick with one of the top "corners." Found it doesn't want to spin so much in my hand. Use a pick maybe about 25% of the time.

I currently use Dunlop's Tortex 1.14 mm, the big blue triangles.
Other sizes/gauges just didn't make the attack right.

EDIT: correction, I use the 1.0mm.

Just got my TBird back from minor inpatient surgery. I normally do all my own work, but this one need to see a real doctor. The rear strap button snapped off leaving not enough screw to get a tool on to twist it out. It ended up having to be drilled out. The shop (a very good one with real luthiers) said it was the hardest one they've ever had to deal with. They said someone put much too long of a screw in it, and glued it in with epoxy or something similar. They had to drill it and apply heat to get it to release. Took them 2 hours. Luckily they had quoted me $40 and honored that price. They're good people and I've used them 2 or 3 times when a job was more than I could handle. Here's a pic of the broken screw. Haven't had time to take a pic of the fix yet. In any case, its good to have her back!
Sounds like something I would have done at 20. Glad you got it fixed!

For guitar, I like the orange Dunlop Tortex (.6mm). For bass, I prefer a thicker pick; I've been using the purple Dunlop Tortex (1.14mm). But i a pinch, I'll use an orange with bass. But because I used to only know how to play with a pick, I've been focusing on my fingers except for songs that want a pick.

Well with all the cancelled gigs and all the bars closed, this time in quarantine has given me some time to get some good practice in. But more importantly, it's got me redoing my whole "Hi-Fi" setup. Should be picking up a pair of Boston Acoustic A400s soon to go with my '68 Sansui 5000. Next upgrade is a new turntable, aiming for a Dual 1219 most likely. Anyone else into old HiFi gear?

Love it but, alas, have none. I used to sell it and repair it.

Hah! I have "old" Hi-fi gear but it's nothing special, other than my JBL Decades bought new in the '70s and re-coned by A.Brown Sound in Marin (did the Grateful Dead and other Bay Area bands speakers) about 20 years ago. Used to commonly see them used in studios back then.
