BTW...have to take the time to say that dealing with Miles and other TB'ers in regard to buying and selling has been a delight.
Currently in the middle of a Reverb issue where the buyer of an item I was selling is trying to scam a discount.
Long story that I don't want to get into, because it will just frustrate me...but I learned to NEVER leave feedback until well after a deal is done...

Last three Tbirds were used. I bought the PB Epi off Reverb from a shop in NY that is affiliated with the Babicz folks. I actually researched them before buying. Great transaction. The Silverburst was a private sale initiated through our club here. Great transaction with one of our frequent contributors. The PB NR was through the Talkbass Classifieds. Another great transaction. But I’m not a seller. Or a flake. I’ve read mixed stories about Reverb protection for sellers against flakes. Hope your transaction ends well. Should any of my birds ever go up for sale, you all on here will get the first crack.

My copy of Poppy’s Snakes of New Jersey arrived (@bylar13). View attachment 3821980
Bonus record company sticker and button included. Digital download too.

Highly recommended! Six tracks, all winners. Original sound that is slightly reminiscent, but not derivative, of Pretenders, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, and Janice. I absolutely love it! I wish I could catch them live someday.

I used to have that same turntable! Great one.

I read that the modern 1989 to present Gibson Thunderbird pickups had about three different versions. Can anyone elaborate? I know the 2015s were one version, but what of the others?

That I've seen, I know of 5 variations of pickups use in Post '88 Thunderbirds. I don't have pics of all of them anyone as Photobucket are jerks.

Thanks! Five! Seems like they never could settle on a good thing. Anything tone-wise on those differences and when those different versions occurred? Not really necessary, I was just curious now that I'm getting one of those versions!

I've had a fair number of transactions here from the classifieds, both buying and selling. Only two or less than satisfactory. I bought a used Getty Lee from a guy and his idea of "great shape" and mine were very different. I also bought a pedal one time from a guy for $50 and it never showed up. He stiffed another person and myself at the same time and was banned from TB. Everything else has been as I would hope for if not much better.

Can't change it?

I'd also like to say that dealing with Mr. Lang is a pleasure, from start to finish. He goes above and beyond. One of teh people I'd love to spend time with IRL. And yeah, the people here tend to be phenomenal.

Pretty much the same here.

If it's under $1000 I'll buy new, but over $1000 and I start looking at used gear. With the exception of the classifieds here I don't buy from private parties anymore. Most dealers have a reputation to maintain so they normally try to do right. I've run into a few sketchy private party sellers where the entire transaction just wasn't worth the few bucks saved. My Anniversary Bird came used from Rumble Seat and my 2015 bird came used from GC. Both my Eppi birds were bought new from Sweetwater.

Of course I still look for used stuff on Craig's list and other private sellers on Reverb and EBay and Gbase but I rarely find anything there that's priced significantly less than Guitar Center, Sam Ash, Chicago Music Exchange, etc.

Hope everything works out ok for @DWLANG. Nothing fun about a bad transaction.

+1 Sweetwater

Looking into it, but I can best be described as “an angry Buddhist,” so I’m pretty chill and often apt to say. “Meh,” and move on with life and let karma do its thing...
It can be tough, but many times just taking note, sucking it up and moving on can be the best way to deal with bad bass transactions. Focusing on another persons wrong doing can sometimes completely consume a person with anger and vengeance. I'm a very firm believer in three things - Karma is a b!tch, everybody gets what the deserve in the end, and never give somebody a second chance to screw you.

Hopefully it will all work out for you, in the meantime rest assured that the buyer now has at least one less reliable honest resource he can rely on to purchase gear from. Eventually he'll end up buying from someone like himself, which is what he deserves.

OK, THUNDERBIRD players, let's talk right hand technique.
Static anchor? Floating anchor? Movable thumb? Movable hand? What's your pleasure?
If you have a thumb or pinky rest, do you use it? If not, and you use a rest, what (thumb, palm, arm) rests where (pickup, body, strings, inconveniently close mic stand, guitar player's belt, what?

Adam Nitti’s movable anchor. When I restarted playing six years ago, I worked on that until it became second nature to me. Back in the day, I anchored my thumb on the edge of the PUP.

$450 on Reverb today...plus $100 worth of gift card from my recent birthday, this is coming home at $350!
Fingers crossed it’s as good as my ebony VP!
