Cool. I missed where you got a Studio. Congrats! IV or V?

Gotcha. Very true. I'm sure it does look great. My white VP with the lighter fretboard still looks fantastic. In fact, one could argue the lighter finish looks better with the lighter fretboard. Though I would prefer the fretboard be a little darker, it's still wonderful. Pictures certainly don't do it justice.Right. But I meant that actual bass could still look great in person. Even though the fretboard is lighter in color.
My VP looks different/better in person, than the sweetwater pics.
Then I'm good to go since I already have a VP.You can run but you can't hide. Not even a melon patch can protect you from hearing "VP, VP, VeeePeee," and seeing one even when you close your eyes. You really do need one and won't regret it at all.
The 2015 currently has Heavy Black Beauties. So far I like them on this bass. A bit of background on the 2015, unlike the VP, I'm finding that this particular bass is very very picky about the strings it wants to play well with. It didn't take to Cobalts at all, way too much going on with the interplay between the pups and strings on those. So far the BB heavy strings seem to be less impacted by the pup magnets, I may try Tapes next. I do have La Bella Black Tapes on my FrankenGoth and love them, very musical and crisp if needed (almost in a baritone guitar category) or very thick and thumpy if needed. I suspect they might be the perfect string for the 2015 which has a very wide tonal range but has pups that can easily over saturate the signal creating a very unwanted chorus effect especially above the 12th fret.Question if you don't mind: Tapes or Black Beauties on the '15? And what it is you like about them on that bass?
I've noticed that as well. Both my Goth and VP boards were quite a bit darker in person than on their website photos.I wondered about that but, my Ebony VP looks great in person. Sweetwater's pics aren't naturally lit, things look a bit lighter than actual. I'm sure the finish isn't that orange, either.
Here's proof - this VW driver just picked up his 2015 bass at Guitar Center and had it in the back seat of the bug for the drive home - Big Mistake! Watch those bass pups fling the bug around like a toy...Video, please. Pretty please? With a maraschino[1] on top?

On any other bass, Black Beauty strings are my go to string to tame the top end and bolster the low mids.

Good lead, thx!Try GHS balanced nickels. They are pure nickel, so less magnetism. And people adore those strings. There's a big thread.
Yeah they are balanced tension. And every string has the same number of wraps. So the tone is also a lot more even. No more extra zingy G strings. They did that with roundcore boomers, too. And I think the re-release of the Progressives are gonna be all the same number of wraps, as well. Once the balanced tension version finally launches.Good lead, thx!

If you are interested in the Balanced Nickles, I have a set I would gladly send them your way very reasonably. They have only been played a few times. Literally. I tried them on the VP and it just wasn't a good fit for what I wanted. I might want to try them on the new Gibson when it arrives first, however. But if they don't work there I would be more than happy to send them to you.Good lead, thx!
In this group?!

Me, too, but I see you’re in Europe.
Did you get tracking info or an email saying it shipped?
Good info. Thanks so much for the details. The Thunderbird that is arriving will have black beauties on it so I am very interested in how they sound, having never tried them before.
As for the VW. I admire the persons persistence even after having hitting the wall several times! But at some point persistence isn't everything and one should just stop pushing the gas pedal. Persistence ended up causing just about everything needing to be fixed on the car. A man's got to know his limitations. In this case when to get off the accelerator and stay off.
"The final version of ‘My Generation’ was played on the Jazz with La Bella tape wound strings."???
My Generation - The Who
Which bass was used on the recording....? Love that tone, especially on the bass solo..

TT contribution. Watching a Stiv Bators documentary. There's a Thunderbird during the recording of Young, Loud, and Snotty. It may be from Peter Frampton's band.
