Well, I ordered some Rotos 66 and DR Pure Blues last night with a gift card I received from some friends. I've wanted to try the DR PBs for some time, and haven't played Rotos since the 80s. We'll see how they do on the Gibson.
Probably something the previous owner did to raise pickup height.Is it safe to assume bits of paint stir sticks ain't supposed to be under the pickups? Or is that the sort of thing Epiphone/China did on the Thunderbird Pro?

Got the clean-up and re-string done, still have to reset the intonation, and bring the action up a tad (I bottomed the saddles out when I took off the old strings).
Already like these strings much better, just from tuning. The old ones were a lot heavier gauge, dunno how they got that B string on without damaging the bridge! It was wedged in super tight

Update on the new to me tobacco burst Epi VP which came to Chicago from Wisconsin via California and Oregon...
Crack in bass side by the nut...can't tell if it's just the poly finish or deeper. Chip / start of a crack on the treble side...this is the one that worries me.
Informed the Reverb seller (Dave's Guitar Shop), and he gave me two options:
1. Refund
2. Order me a replacement directly from Epiphone
I'm opting for choice 2...and packing her up and shipping her back. I'm assuming this is a warranty thing, that the seller can afford this?
Crack in bass side by the nut...can't tell if it's just the poly finish or deeper. Chip / start of a crack on the treble side...this is the one that worries me.

There *was* an update limited edition of 100 hardback copies all individually signed by Rob, to my knowledge its sold out now.
Were the strings tensioned when the bass arrived? That is a real shame that either that happened during shipping OR that they would sell a bass in that condition without disclosing it with photographs to the purchaser.
