Thunderbird Club

There were three guys with TBirds (including me) at the open mike I went to last night. Noticed that the Epis were considerably heavier than my Gibson.

So I was checking out the electronics in the new Dillion,
It's got 3 500k Alpha pots, which I believe are decent quality.
The issue is the tone, it seems to do almost nothing till the last 1/4", and even rolled all the way off, there's not a big change.
Definitely not compared to my precision or jazz.
Might go ahead and do some changes.

What are most people using, 250k or 500k pots? And what capacitor.

Also, I really prefer a blend over two volumes, so I might change that.

I had an hour to kill this morning so I queued it up and listened to the whole thing. Very nice, Haji! That should give your band a bit more buzz in the local music scene and maybe a little beyond!
Thank you, very much! It was a TON of fun to do. Hoping it'll get us some buzz and open some doors. :)

Is it "off air" now? Can't get it to pull up

Side note: played the 2012 NRBird tonight at practice. Holy cow. I'm in love. I've owned more than a few nice basses over the last 15 years, but I may have a new #1. Fantastic bass.

The existing tone pot might be an audio with a really sharp taper or it may have been damaged in the soldering? Just wondering.
I think the stock pots in my Gibson TBird are 500K and the cap looks to be a pidgy little ceramic one, which is clearly visible in the pic below (which sort of surprised me.... well not really).
I have a spare Sprague Orange Drop lying around from another project, I wonder if it would make much difference. Who knows? Guys in other places argue endlessly about the finer points of caps. I generally play with my tone pot wide open anyways.
Anyways, here's my cavity after the EY installation- only the pickups and pickup leads were changed from stock- been posted here before.

I've have 500K Log A Alpha pots for volume, and 500K Lin B Alpha pots for tone in all my humbucker equipped basses and guitars, which seems to work fine.

For caps they all got .022uf...

Hi folks,

Was recommended that I post this over here to see if anyone has any thoughts:

Been getting a hum/buzz out of my Gibson Thunderbird -

Not exactly overpowering, but definitely annoying. As far as I can tell from my checking, the bass is still grounded (I opened it up and checked everything). The hum is with both pickups on, or either one solo'd. It slowly goes away as I roll back on the tone knob. The louder I have my amplifier, the louder the buzz is.

So this is what we've got:

- ground wire and all electronics still appear to be in tact and connected where they should be
- tried multiple amps, still buzz
- buzz does not go away when I touch any metal part on the bass, but it goes away when I turn the tone knob down. Pickup selection doesn't effect it.
- tried multiple rooms and three different venues/gigs, still buzz
- gets worse/goes away to one extent or another as I turn towards/away from the amplifier.
- tried different cables, with and without effects. still buzz.

I've done some research and have come to the conclusion that this might actually be cause by the output jack itself failing. These basses come with the barrel-type output jack, so I can't exactly see whats going on inside it, and what may or may not be wrong with it when I'm plugged in.

I also want to add that I bought the bass brand new in 2006 (I think) and the electronics have been touched/modded.

Any thoughts?
