Thunderbird Club

Ah, okay. I'm looking for some more unusual looking ones. Hence why I was initially interested in the Grover Imperial style, and disappointed that they apparently aren't available for bass.

Well you'll run into problems trying to fit standard size tuners on the bird. Due to the spacing, the keys tend to touch each other when regular sized tuners are used. You can ream out the post holes a little to make some more space between tuners, but I'd rather just use the mini clovers.

Yeah, Hipshot makes good stuff, but I thought even $100 was a little spendy for a set of tuners - though it is a specialty item... I also got the Supertone bridge, but I bought that on ebay for $40 less than what Hipshot charges.

I can't disagree, I thiught it was a bit higher than I expected. I think my total cost was $135 which works out to $33.75 usd. More than I would have liked but in the end I am very happy with the end product.

Spoke with the same people, and when it came to paying, I had to mention the price that I was quoted by Jason.

Well this starting to sound just a little fishy. Oscar acted like he never heard of these tuners going for $100 a set and after we got on the same page about the price, he still charged me $140. I had to call him back after I got the invoice in my email and he refunded the $140 and charged me $100. I was willing to chalk it up to miscommunication, or whatever, but now it's starting to look like a little skeezy.

The most I ever paid for a set of tuners before this was $80 for a set of Schallers. I was expecting about the same for the ultra lights. I could accept $100, but I told Oscar on no uncertain terms would I pay more than what I was quoted. In light of tomshepp's experience (and the fact that they STILL tried to charge me more, after we worked out the price), this is starting to look a little shady... Not what you'd expect from an established company like Hipshot.

Lovely Thunderbird!

You got it! I'll dig up the list and post it, meantime please be most welcome here!
Thanks!
I was completely surprised with how good the neck played. Needs a new set of strings, and the action lowered a tad, but the neck relief was perfect, fret ends perfect, nice slim, fast neck.

Only thing is the tone pot seems virtually useless. Does almost nothing till the last couple millimeters.

Still have to check that out further and see what to do there, no biggie.

What is the typical t-bird electronic setup as far as what k pots and caps?

The pickups could be a little growlier, but that could be the old strings, and I'll do something with the electronics first.

Emg 35 size pickups, btw, so not sure what to do about upgrades without getting the chisels out... if I decide I even need/want to. . But really I paid $250cdn for it, about $200US, so I'm really not expecting the full tbird experience... But I think I need a longer strap, it begs to be slung low, lol
