I had an ‘86 Custom Shop Thunderbird years ago, but I sold it in ‘99 to buy my ‘77 Jazz Bass. I always kind of wanted another one, but couldn’t really justify the price. I’ve been looking at the Epiphone Vintage Pro model online, and really like the way they look. I read up on them and they seemed like pretty nice basses for the money. I retired last week, so I pulled the trigger as a gift to myself. I just got it unboxed and tuned up. It’s very cool! It sounds like a monster through my Ampeg rig! I’m looking forward to taking it to band practice this weekend and trying it out at volume. I hope an Epiphone will qualify here. On a side note... when I was in high school in ‘82, I could have bought a ‘64 Thunderbird IV. I’d just bought a Rickenbacker a couple of months earlier, and thought my parents would probably be upset if I spent another $400. D’oh!!!!!!!!!!
Here are pics of my ‘86 and the new one.
Shoulda kept that '86 - far fewer of those than '64s. Very rare Thunderbird, like 1 of 10.
The Vintage Pro is your gateway Bird, there will be more - I'm adding you to the list just above, please be welcome here with us bassgtrman, you'll be #818
