The silks are all ratted out, some of the strings are wound around the tuners from the bottom up, some from the top down, one post has five wraps, another post has just barely one wrap, and the previous owner didn't even bother to insert the string tip in the post hole on the A string so it has three inches of "poke your eye out" wire just looking for a victim (I cut it off to protect innocent bystanders)....

I'll most likely replace them just to eliminate the embarrassment factor of being seen with something so atrocious. But I'll take my time doing it, in the meantime I'll close my eyes when I play the Greco and instead just focus on the eargasim it creates.

Based on what I've heard about the RS77, why not just put on a new set?They should be dead fairly quickly and probably sound like what you have now.

@TBird1958 getting back to the meat and potatoes of this thread...(maybe less meat and more potatoes).

Recall a few pages back that I mentioned I'm really liking the stock pup in my BaCH. I still do, but now that I've had more time to spend with it I'm coming to the conclusion that the Altec doesn't have the balls of the Greco, or the Grind of the VP, or the foundation of the Modern Gibby. It's kind of a slightly less tame version of the modern Gibson TBird Humbucker. I'd place it between the modern Gibby and the VP in sound.

So the question is, what does the Lull replacement pup bring to the table in this bass, is it closer to the Greco, or the VP, or something else? Is any routing required?

Just inquiring for now, I'll do some string changes first to see what impact that has on the BaCH NR.

First, I really wish that I'd kept one of the two BaCH's that I owned, they both got Lulls and I loved how they sounded. The conversion was easy, no routing at all. I don't recall if I replaced the pots - I may have. I chatted with Mike Lull about this stuff quite often, he was very helpful - the real deal for sure. Tonally, yes very similar to the Greco, the pup is really in the SWEET spot on that bass.

what model is yours? is it the slimline earlier model? Does it have the belly cut?
