Happy Independence Day, gang!
Thought I'd take out the ebony '79s and force them to pose for a family portrait (believe me, they were NOT in the mood...and after enjoying a few adult beverages, myself, this took WAY longer than it should have).
And for those steely-eyed missile men, yes, that IS a Spirit of '76 pick guard on the second from the left, but I promise it's a '79)

Man! I got a bit choked up looking at those lovely THUNDERBIRDS. What a way to celebrate the holiday. Thank you King for making the effort to share them with us. They are awesome!

Aw, man, I didn’t mean to choke you up. But the sentiment is appreciated. The greatest shame is that I haven’t gigged in a while, so they’re all getting restless.

Pickups

He didn’t pop up a few weeks ago when I was casually looking for PUPs. I found an old (sold) Reverb ad for a set of drop-ins for bolt-ons that he did at one time. Might be something to think about for my Goth if he still does them. Pretty hot winds per specs for that set.
I would love to see Klein's do the reproduction Thunderbird PU. I love how they reverse engineer their PUs like no other. I have a set of their '62 PBass PUs and they are fantastic. And not crazy expensive.

Klein Pickups - Vintage Electric Guitar Pickups & Parts-

I'd love to see what they would come up with for a Thunderbird with the below process. But now that I seem to be getting pretty happy with the '06, it doesn't seem like a real need.

How they go about it...
- Magnets, Our Epic Series 1962 Pickups use Original Fender Alloy Alnico 5 Magnets From 1962. We sent Original magnets from a 1962 pickup to an Independent Laboratory for Metallurgical Chemical Analysis Testing. We then contracted direct with our magnet manufacturer to get the Alnico 5 magnets Specially Poured to the exact composition of the Originals. We are the only manufacturer who offers this. Pure, Sweet, and Authentic Tone.

- Wire, our 42ga Plain Enamel wire is not just stock wire. We have sent dozens of samples of wire from early Precisions for analysis. We get our 42ga Plain Enamel built to the exact specs of the samples we have had analyzed. Exact Resistance, Exact ID & OD, & Color matching. Our 42ga Plain Enamel Wire is the most authentic and accurate Magnet Wire Available. As Authentic as it can possibly get.

- Tone, the tone of our Authentic 1962 Precision pickups is amazing. You will never play a more versatile sounding bass. People often ask us why vintage pickups sound so good. Well, the main reason why is that materials used in the 50s & 60's are not the same as today's off the shelf parts. Replicating every alloy, every element, every aspect of a pickup is why our 1962 Epic Series Pickups sound identical to a real 1962 pickups. We get every part of the Epic 1962 pickups specially manufactured, only for us, from an actual 1962 pickup. 1962 Epic pickups have a huge bassy low end, with a smooth mid range drive from the strength of the pickups induced current, with treble frequencies that are very mellow, but still snappy. The overall impression you will have is that of a bass with a very large sound, well balanced Bass/Mid/Treble frequencies while having a depth of tone that modern pickups lack.

I had my first practice since February last Wednesday. I took the all-stock black Embassy 2 (except Hipshot lollipops and DR nickel Lowriders), love it at home, LOVED it at practice, growl all over the place (LMII, Audiokinesis composite Thunderchild 115). In fact, so much growl, even in full bass mode, a little is still there.

Maybe the 7th is a lefty and BrooklynKen is holding out on you. Probably not.

It makes me wonder how many of the musical instruments that have been made over the years still exist. Surely a few were destroyed along the way, but it isn't like they wear out exactly.

A serious question (I know, here of all places).

Most national holidays celebrating the formation of a country are called either Independence (sometimes with a from) or the Country's name Day. Properly, the US holiday is Independence Day. But the vast majority of Americans call it 4th of July.

So, why is it that Americans:
1. Prefer to call your celebration of nationhood after a date rather Independence, and
2. Americans like to use the least logical system for dates (month, day, year) but refer to Independence Day as 4th of July (the logical order)?

A1: Public school systems likely bear some blame. (I likely have more teachers in my family than anyone here.)

A2: Are you trying to start another war?

Q (A1) 1 - Is that some kind of commentary about teachers taking the path of least resistance: fewer spelling corrections for July vs Independence?
Q (A2) 2 - Why would I re-open a topic we fought to a bloody draw? And it is illogical to do month day year.

A1) If that is a factor I actually suspect is has more to do with how history is taught than spelling.

A2) If you're looking for logical this side of the border. Good luck.
Aside from that, it's a pretty good place to live. For the time being anyway. I'm not that optimistic about the future. The more I see what passes for having a college education, our only hope might be if plumbers and mechanics and the like take over.;)

Thanks! And very interested in the report.

Very interesting! Can't say I've ever heard of that brand of pickup. Do you have a link to their website? Looking forward to your report.

Nice to have more options showing up for replacement pickups. How are his prices in relation to say Lull and Thunderbucker?

Thanks guys! Ill report back once its done. I found Alex on Instagram. His prices are reasonable ($160 a pickup and that includes rings), and he can do some custom options. The soundclips I've heard of some of the custom bass builds he's been a part of sounded great, but there isn't much out there for Thunderbirds. I'll try to do an Instagram video and share it once its back.

Cheers!
